Results of Title IX Needs and Interest Survey Reported

GCISD conducted a survey of female students in middle and high schools to determine if the District is meeting their needs and interests regarding sports. Although not a requirement of Title IX, the survey was an effort to gather feedback on this topic directly from secondary-age female students. A total of 3,374 female students completed the survey. Results indicate that 64.9 percent of our middle and high school female students do not participate in school sports, with 68.6 percent of those surveyed reporting that they participate in extra-curricular activities other than school sports. Activities such as cheerleading, drill team and dance are not designated as athletic activities by Title IX definition. The most common reasons cited for not participating in school sports do not suggest a lack of opportunity, or that they are being discouraged from participation. Further, results indicate that GCISD is meeting the overall athletic needs and interests of female students in middle and high schools.
