{epcot} The annual Mustang Band Spring Trip Our trip date was March 4th - 8th, 2010. 220 Mustang Band members, chaperones, and staff headed to Orlando, Florida to participate in a unique Disney Performing Arts Instrumental Workshop called: "Disney Instrumental Soundtrack Session Workshop". Disney Instrumental Soundtrack Session Workshop The Disney Performing Arts Soundtrack Sessions put participants in a recording studio setting where Disney music professionals teach the high school students important sight-reading and performance concepts, and what it’s like to work in the professional music industry. Ensemble playing, the importance of sight-reading and the critical role each ensemble member plays in creating great music is reinforced in this recording session for a Disney musical score. Workshop Clinicians are composers, arrangers, conductors and studio musicians, each with Disney credit to their name. Our studios and sound stages are the real deal, so when students put on a pair of wireless headphones and listen to the click track, they truly learn what it’s like to lay down tracks like the pros. Each workshop session includes playback of actual Disney film clips with the musical score provided by the GHS High School Mustang Concert/Symphonic Band, Honors Band, and Wind Ensemble. {epcotseniors} GHS Band 2010 Senior Class @ EPCOT ================================================================================ Grapevine High School Musical Orchestra for the 2010 production of Les Miserables (to see more photos of the orchestra, go to the photo gallery along the left side) {Musical Orchestra} Grapevine H.S. MUSTANG BAND The GHS Mustang Band program consists of four concert bands, the GHS Mustang Marching Band, a Drumline, a Color Guard / Winter Guard, and a jazz band. The various bands appear and perform at many events throughout the year such as football games, pep rallies, parades, concerts, festivals and contests. Active programs in solo and ensemble work are offered for interested students. Opportunities for individual competition on the district, region, area, and state levels are also available. The bands take an out-of-town trip each spring for eligible students. The function of the band is to provide an enjoyable activity which enhances the educational system while fostering music appreciation and understanding. With the permission of the band director, an orchestra student (string player) may enroll in a band class so that he or she could compete in local, regional, area and state music contests. Philosophy A well rounded education is enhanced by one of the most basic of all studies...the study of music. Music, in addition to enhancing the human spirit, teaches discipline, develops self-confidence, and gives each student a feeling of pride and accomplishment. Playing in band teaches students the importance of working with others and helps them develop the social skills necessary to be a part of a performing organization. Instrumental music engages students in a group activity which allows them to use their free time constructively. Band instills values: responsibility, leadership, purpose and direction, devotion to duty, spirit of cooperation, and sensitivity to beauty. Not all band students become great musicians, but certainly all become more mature, cooperative, self-disciplined, hard working members of society with an appreciation of the fine arts. Music is a subject which affects all sides of a student's personality. This includes the intellectual, physical, emotional, psychological, spiritual, and social aspects of a person. The mission of the GHS Mustang Band is to provide students the opportunity to express themselves in some form of musical activity, in group and individual settings, as they mature and grow into productive members of society. Along with musical expression, discipline, pride, and commitment to excellence are instilled as each student participates with others to create what we call GRAPEVINE HIGH SCHOOL MUSTANG BAND. |
