Welcome to the Colleyville Heritage High School website. Colleyville Heritage High School, a National Blue Ribbon school, prides itself on being a Community of Excellence. In this comprehensive and competitive 5A high school, we believe in: • Cultivating Relationships with Dignity, Care and Respect • Highly Effective Instruction • Honest, Open and Responsive Communication • Success for Every Student Colleyville Heritage High School opened in 1996 with an enrollment of approximately 1200 students, grades 9 – 12. Since then, we have grown to a student body of over 2400 students of diverse backgrounds and experiences unified by our Panther Pride! At CHHS, we instill the importance of building positive relationships within our student body and with our staff. Through the use of our advisory program that utilizes Junior and Senior mentors, our PEANUTS (Panthers Expecting All New Underclassmen to Succeed) groups begin working with our Freshmen from orientation throughout the year. Upper grade level advisories focus on Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens, career investigation and preparation for life after high school. We utilize the Flip Flippen Capturing Kids’ Hearts philosophies of reaching our students head through their heart in the continuous cultivation of these positive relationships. CHHS has the proud distinction of being recognized on a repeated basis by Newsweek magazine as one of the nation’s top 100 high schools based on students enrolled in Advanced Placement courses and success in those courses. We offer over 17 AP courses for students beginning as early as their freshmen year. In addition, we offer dual enrollment courses in conjunction with Tarrant County Community College and work programs through our Career and Technology Education classes. The staff of CHHS works collaboratively to ensure that all students have access to a viable curriculum that is assessed on a formative basis for the success of all students. Our professional learning includes early release days for our staff to meet in their content teams through our Professional Learning Community endeavors as well as focus groups that meets the needs of our staff in their continued growth as educators. Book studies such as On Common Ground, Brain Based Instruction, Classroom Instruction that Works and technology classes are the norm at CHHS. Communication is an important tool in the success of CHHS. Parents and students have access to grades online and every teacher has a working website. Since our district is in the transition of converting to a new web server, we ask your patience as our teachers build their websites to be informative, relevant and up-to-date. As always, we encourage parents to contact their child’s teacher either through email (last.first@gcisd.net) or by phone. We expect teachers to return contact within 24 hours unless there is an emergency that would prevent that contact. Lastly, CHHS works toward success for every student. Every teacher provides tutorials before and after school. CHHS also provides an extended day program, Monday through Thursdays in the library from 4 – 5 pm to help students and teachers with make up opportunities as well as tutorial support when a teacher might not be available. We secure tutors for pull-out programs for our students who struggle with TAKS as well as providing shelter classes for upperclassmen who need to pass TAKS in order to graduate. We hope you find our website helpful in navigating through the unbelievable opportunities at CHHS. Our heartfelt thanks go to our PTSA, parent groups and booster clubs for their informational links to our websites. Without their support, CHHS would not be the outstanding school we are proud to call home. Please feel free to contact me or our webmaster if there are areas that you believe we could improve in order to provide the CHHS Community of Excellence. Go Panthers! Becky Prentice |
