  • Panther Wrestling

Thursday night the Panthers traveled to Carrollton Newman Smith for their 1st dual of the season, where they came away with a 45-36 victory. Earning wins for the Panthers were Jarrod, Evan, Zackary, Enis, Jarred, Ryan, Oliver, and Isaiah. Then on Friday and Saturday, they made the trip to Carrolton RL Turner where the team showed promise on both days. The tournament hosted the number 9 team in 5A and a tough Louisiana team. The Panthers placed 10th out of 27 teams while only filling 8 out of the 14 weight classes, which is 3 more than last week. Zackary Harris, Ryan Davis, and Isaiah Sutton started their tournament off with a loss before going on to win their next match and then dropping their 3rd one. All three off them went 1-2. Jarred Gutbier and Reece Willman started strong winning their first two matches before dropping their final three to place 6th. Standout performances for the Panthers came from freshman Evan Atchley and senior Enis Ida. Evan came away with a 3rd place finish after being seeded 5th. He knocked off the four seed in his first match and then lost to the number 12 ranked kid in the state. He then went on to win his next two matches by knocking off the 3 seed to place 3rd. The varsity tournament was capped off with Enis Ida winning the Paul Aubrey Tournament! He was able to knock off the number 4 ranked wrestler in his weight class and then beat a Louisiana state champion in the finals. These big wins had the coaches vote him as the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. He has now won this award two weeks in a row.

In the girls tournament, Pazelee and Nimbe battled tough but were both unable to gain a win. They were in promising positions before making little mistakes that cost them the match. They are eager to get back to work.

In the JV tournament ,the Panthers came away with 4 medalist! Placing 4th was Ethan Curry, placing 2nd was Jarrod Gonzalez, and placing 2nd were JR Williams and Houston Dietrich.

Congratulations to the debate team for the performances in the past couple of weeks. The weekend before Thanksgiving found the team competing in the Glenbrooks tournament in Chicago, IL. The public forum team of Raheena Ali & Will Watson debated their way to a 5-2 record in their division. Although they missed the elimination rounds on tiebreakers, they still placed in the top 40 teams out of 180 teams in the competition.

This past weekend found the debate team competing at two different venues. At the University of Texas Longhorn Classic in Austin, Ali & Watson finished in the top 16 teams out of 114 teams in Public Forum debate. Will was also named the top speaker in that division.

At the Creekview tournament, Arsh Ladhani and Itbaan Nafi finished in the quarterfinals in the Lincoln Douglas division. This finish now qualifies Arsh for the Texas Forensic Association state tournament. In Novice CX debate, the team of Shahina Chatur and Nida Ali finished in the semifinals; the team of Illiyan Bardai and Alishan Rehmanfinished 2nd in that division. In Novice LD debate, Amaan Babul finished as a quarterfinalist. We had several speaker awards as well, including Shahina as 2nd speaker and Nida as 4th speaker in their division.
