Weather Updates

  • Friday Weather Update - Early Dismissal

Due to deteriorating winter weather conditions, high school and middle school students are being dismissed early from school today. Release times are 11:30 a.m. for high school (buses) and 12:15 p.m. for middle school, and 1 p.m. for elementary school. High school drivers will be released at 11:15 a.m., in advance of the buses. Buses will run regular routes on the early release schedule. Parents are welcome to pick up their child at any time. The KidzU after-school care program will be available until 4 p.m. today at all elementary campuses. If conditions worsen, KidzU personnel will contact parents directly to discuss an earlier pick up.

Additionally, after-school activities for Friday, February 27, and into Saturday morning, February 28, have been cancelled. If conditions improve throughout the day on Saturday, GCISD personnel will discuss the possibility of continuing these activities. Please check our event rescheduling page for updates on cancelled events. We will work as quickly as possible to reschedule these events and will communicate changes through our sponsors, schools and on the district and school websites. Thank you and please drive safely. All four middle schools -- Colleyville Middle, Cross Timbers Middle, Grapevine Middle and Heritage Middle -- will be hosting their information nights at the same time on Thursday, just as was planned previously. • Report Bullying

GCISD is proud to provide an additional resource for reporting bullying, violence or mistreatment of any kind. Friends for Life, a program from Crime Stoppers, is an anonymous reporting method that you or your child can find on your counselors website. Once on the website, there will be a link to the reporting website or a phone number for calling or texting in a report. Off-duty public safety dispatchers operate the call center along with other trained personnel who take calls, texts and onlinesubmissions and disseminate the tip information to the appropriate campus and district contacts for investigation. Once again we would like to reiterate that this is an anonymous reporting method. This is just one more way GCISD aims to ensure student safety.

  • It's the LAW!

A new law took effect September 1 with regard to the use of mobile devices on school property. It is important that our Silver Lake families know and understand the new law as it pertains to operating a vehicle on GCISD property. More details, includingthe exact wording of the law, are provided below:
The Bill prohibits the use of a wireless communication device while operating a motor vehicle on school property.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Section 545.425(b), Transportation Code, is amended to read as follows: (b) Except as provided by Subsection (c), an operator may not use a wireless communication device while operating a motor vehiclewithin a school crossing zone, as defined by Section 541.302, Transportation Code, or on the property of a public or private elementary or middle school unless:
    (1) the vehicle is stopped; or
    (2) the wireless communication device is used with a hands-free device.
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only to an offense committed on or after the effective date of this Act. An offense committed before the effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the offense was committed, andthe former law is continued in effect for that purpose. For purposes of this section, an offense was committed before the effective date of this Act if any element of the offense occurred before that date.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013.

Thank you for observing this new law, designed to keep our school children and staff safer!
