Garden Club worked to plant blueberry and blackberry bushes, as well as cherry tomatoes and squash in the garden. Club members also planted beautiful flowers at the entry of our school. Items planted were purchased from funds provided by a Civic Seed Grant received from the Grapevine Garden Club. Nice work, Garden Club members!

  • New Principal Named at Silver Lake Elementary

Cole The GCISD Board of Trustees named Dr. Shannon Cole as the new principal of Silver Lake Elementary School during the regular June 15 meeting. Dr. Cole comes to GCISD with 12 years of education experience, most recently in Irving ISD as principal of Farine Elementary.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Cole to the GCISD family,” said Dr. Robin Ryan, GCISD Superintendent. “Her passion for language acquisition and English language learners, partnered with her proven leadership experience of a dual language two-way campus, makes her a perfect fit for the Silver Lake students, parents and staff.”

The search for a new Silver Lake principal began when Dr. Gilbert Gonzales accepted a position as a Secondary Bilingual Administrator in GCISD for the 2015-2016 school year. Input from staff and parents was used to determine the desired qualifications and characteristics of a new principal for Silver Lake.

“As the new principal of Silver Lake it is my goal to continue to support the implementation of dual language and maintain a culture where students and teachers achieve at their highest potential,” said Dr. Cole. “It is my personal mission to call out “greatness” in every child as we recognize and celebrate their individual strengths."

Dr. Cole earned her Bachelor of Arts in Advertising from Harding University and her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Grand Canyon University before completing her Doctorate in K-12 Educational Leadership from Dallas Baptist University. Prior to her role as principal at Farine Elementary, Dr. Cole served as an assistant principal at Farine Elementary for four years. She has also served as a fourth-grade, fifth-grade and special education teacher and an instructional specialist in Irving ISD.

Dr. Cole officially begins her new role at Silver Lake on July 20, 2015.

  • Report Bullying

GCISD is proud to provide an additional resource for reporting bullying, violence or mistreatment of any kind. Friends for Life, a program from Crime Stoppers, is an anonymous reporting method that you or your child can find on your counselors website. Once on the website, there will be a link to the reporting website or a phone number for calling or texting in a report. Off-duty public safety dispatchers operate the call center along with other trained personnel who take calls, texts and onlinesubmissions and disseminate the tip information to the appropriate campus and district contacts for investigation. Once again we would like to reiterate that this is an anonymous reporting method. This is just one more way GCISD aims to ensure student safety.
