Hello! My name is Melissa Carpenter and I am greatly looking forward to another exciting year of teaching at Cross Timbers! I am originally from Sugar Land, TX outside of Houston. I attended the University of Dallas for Undergraduate studies and was honored to receive the Helen Corbitt Award in recognition for Outstanding Achievements enriching the University. Currently, I am enrolled at UT Arlington working towards a Masters in Education for Science Curriculum and Instruction.

I have been at Cross Timbers for the past 4 years. In these past years I have enjoyed first working as an AVID tutor, then teaching 7th grade Science (PAP and ACC) for 3 years, and AVID for 2 years. During these years I have also worked as a Science Club Sponsor, Cheer Co-Sponsor, Tennis Coach, AVID Club Sponsor, AVID Site Team Member, and various other school clubs such as Garden Club, Trivia Club and Cards for Caring. I truly believe in the importance of students being involved and love to help each student find their passion and support them in their activities.

I believe education is an opportunity for students to grow in their knowledge by learning how to inquire about the world around them, discuss with peers, share new ideas, and build confidence as they continue to discover new things.  As an educator, I aim to challenge, support, and encourage students as they grow in confidence to solve problems, collaborate with peers, and use their skills and gained knowledge to reach new heights. I believe in building positive relationships with parents, students, and the community to build great experiences, memories, and a lifelong love of learning to be pursued far into the future! :)
