Conference Time 10:50-11:40
I graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English as well as a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing, specifically poetry. This will be my second year as a Gator and I am extraordinarily excited about what lies ahead for our incoming 5th graders. I have the great fortune to be teaching 5th grade Humanities at Glenhope which encompasses quite a bit; however, my goal is to utilize a variety of tools to help make their learning fun and engaging and hopefully feel less daunting.
Humanities consists of social studies, reading and writing! In social studies we will be exploring different aspects of U.S. history from the earliest settlements through the present day. We will learn how our country evolved from a handful of settlements to thirteen colonies who gathere to draft the Declaration of Independence and later the Constitution. Along the way we will also continue to improve our fluency and comprehension as readers of a variety of texts. I hope to nurture a love of reading in each and every student by finding what their interests are and encouraging them to read, read, read. I hope to achieve the same with each student's writing! We will deepen our understanding of the writing process in order to feel truly prepared for middle school.
My wife and I have a ten year old son, Eli, and 6 year old daughter, Adley. We have a dog named Percy (after Percy Jackson) and a leopard gecko named Geico. We love to ride bikes, have Nerf battles, put puzzles together, but our favorite activity is roller skating (my wife and I worked at a skating rink for 4 years).
A few of my favorite things to do are read, write, compose music on the guitar and ukulele, and build various types of furniture.
Stay in the loop!
