1st Six Weeks

8th Grade Accelerated Science, also known as IPC, integrates two subjects:  physics and chemistry.  The first semester is an introduction to chemistry.  You will learn about atoms and the learn to use the Periodic Table of the Elements as a tool.  If you want to conduct chemical reactions, you’re in the right class!!  The second semester is an introduction to physics.  You’ll study motion and forces, play with simple machines and learn all about energy.  Be sure to bring your “math brain” along.  Critical-thinking and scientific problem-solving skills are also a must for conducting lots of fun laboratory investigations.

Information about Scientific Calculators:

It is not required that you have your own scientific calculator.  We have class sets for use at school.  However, if you want to purchase a calculator, I would recommend the TI-84 Plus or the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition.  The only difference between these calculators is processor speed, memory and price.  If your family has already purchased for an older sibling from the TI-83 family that will work also!

This is a calculator that will get your student through high school and into college, so if you want to purchase one, it is well worth the money.  It will cost around $120.

I recommend that your student leaves his/her personal calculator at home.
