• Dove Elementary Approved Candidacy for International Baccalaureate

IB Dove Elementary School (DES) has been approved as a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme, pursuing authorization as an IB World School.

“We are honored to be granted status as an IB Candidate School,” said Cindy Galloway, DES principal. “Our teachers have already begun designing experiences that allow the students to explore learning while making an impact on the world around us.”

This past year, DES has been working towards becoming a candidate for IB, which encourages both personal and academic achievement by challenging students to excel in their studies and in their personal development. Now that DES has been approved for candidacy, the campus will embark on a two-year process to fulfill the requirements for authorization as an IB Primary Years Programme.

Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.

“Our new approach to classroom instruction enables Dove Elementary to develop strong academic and social characteristics while encouraging students to think independently and drive their own learning,” Galloway said. “Through inquiry-based learning, our students will be able to engage with people in an increasingly globalized, rapidly changing world and emerge as leaders.”

According to IB, the Primary Years Programme prepares students to become active, caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others and have the capacity to participate in the world around them. This focus aligns with the elements of LEAD 2021 and the GCISD Portrait of a Graduate.
