Dear Dove Parents,
We are excited about this year at Dove Elementary. The enrichment teachers are looking forward to a fun and productive school year with your children. All students will come to enrichment every day. Students will have PE two and a half times a week, Music once a week, and MCLAE once per week. On Friday students split the time between PE and a culture lesson, a music lesson, or a health lesson.
PE Dress Code: Students will be expected to wear appropriate attire for physical activity. GCISD policy requires students to wear tennis shoes to every P.E. class for his/her safety. These shoes must be fully enclosed athletic-type tennis shoes. They should tie,Velcro or have elastic across the top of the foot. Backless shoes, flip flops, sandals, boots, crocs, etc. are not permitted for the safety of students. Girls must wear shorts under skirts and dresses.
PE Excuses: A note from a parent/guardian must accompany any excuse from activity. If a student needs to be excused from P.E. for more than three consecutive days, a doctor’s note is required. The doctor’s note must state any limitations or exclusion from activity. A doctor’s release is required after being excused for several weeks. Such as a broken arm, leg, etc.
Grading: Enrichment grades will be given in two areas. One grade will reflect knowledge, effort, and positive participation, while the conduct grade will reflect attitude and citizenship. Signing the discipline book will directly affect the child’s conduct grade.
4th grade-5th grade E = excellent work, meets all objectives, exceeds minimum requirements S = satisfactory work, meets all objectives, meets minimum requirements N = needs improvement, little or no effort U = unsatisfactory, not meeting objectivesKindergarten
K-3rd grades Standard Based * 3 = meeting 9 weeks standards * 2 = making adequate progress toward 9 weeks standards * 1 = not making adequate progress toward 9 weeks standards.
The following behavior expectations will apply in all enrichment areas (Music, PE, MCLAE): Be responsible and treat others with respect. Follow directions the first time given. Keep hands, feet, objects, and negative comments to yourself. Raise your hand and wait for permission before speaking or moving during instruction Use supplies, instruments, and equipment as instructed. If a student chooses to break the rules, the following consequences will be applied: Verbal warning. The child will record inappropriate behavior in a classroom discipline book. A “think ticket” will be sent home to be signed by a parent/guardian and must be returned the next day. Positive reinforcement, praise, good behavior tickets "Walker Dollars"/tokens and special activities will be given to those who choose to follow the rules.
