Spelling for Second Grade

This year your student will learn "spelling concepts - rules" to follow. Each week the "spelling concept" is listed below. Your student practices the concept at school. At home, it is the student's choice "how to practice" words that follow the concept. There is nothing to turn in for homework on Fridays.

On the last day of each week, usually Friday, the student has a "spelling check" (otherwise known as a quiz or test) The quiz contains "concept words" for the week, several past concept words (like blends, diagraphs, etc.), and sight words which are listed on the concept page.

Spelling grades in second grade are also taken from "write about reading, math, science, and social studies" at the teacher's discretion. Spelling counts as 20% of your student's LA grade.
