    Me as a Teacher

I am so excited to be starting my fifth year as a teacher at Dove Elementary!  I have spent 4 years teaching 5th grade and although I'm sad to leave a grade level that I love I am ecstatic to be moving to 3rd grade!  I graduated with honors from Western Governors University of Texas in December of 2012.  I began my teaching journey at Dove Elementary as an intern in the fourth grade.  After graduation, I was able to stay at Dove as an Instructional Assistant in the first grade and then hired for the 13-14 school year in 5th.  I feel 3rd will challenge me to continue to grow as an Educator in new ways.

I am so blessed to say that I am a wife, and the proud mom of 4 amazing kiddos!  My husband Darrell and I are having a blast raising, and being the chauffeur to these kids.  We have a 17-year-old daughter that will be a senior at GHS.  Kerstynn is a member of the Varsity Lady Mustang volleyball team and plays for Tejas Volleyball Club.  She has recently committed to play volleyball at St. Edwards University in Austin!!  We also have 13yr old boy, girl twins in the 8th grade at Medlin Middle School.  Hayden’s passion is football and plays for the Medlin Mustangs.  Peyton is following in big sister's footsteps and has taken up volleyball, she plays for Medlin and Tejas too!  Our youngest, Brody is 7 and is in 2nd grade here at Dove!! He loves American Ninja Warrior and will start tackle football this year with MP!! :)  I LOVE every bit of this busy life and know all too soon these days will pass.

    Me in the Classroom

I believe that children are unique individuals who need safe, loving and inspiring atmospheres where they can grow and mature intellectually and physically as well as emotionally and socially.  As an educator, it will be my goal to aid students in embracing their full potential in all areas by offering an environment where they feel safe and supported so that they want to share their ideas openly.  I will be a guide to my students and allow their imagination and personal interest to direct his or her learning. I believe students will have a desire to search out the answers to their questions when they have a teacher who leads them to find the information, instead of being the absolute source of information.   Students need to be able to take what they have learned in the classroom and use it in real situations.  This requires lesson plans with hands-on activities with suitable space and time to use items that reinforce the lesson being taught.  This will create an opportunity for your child to discover their unique self.

    The University of Third Grade

I chose to make the theme of my classroom The University of Third Grade.  I love the traditions that Universities have developed and want to keep the kids excited and looking towards the future.  I will be spotlighting different Universities throughout the school year by showing the students a short video about the University and its traditions.

I am bringing this theme with me from 5th grade.  Since I have been at Dove I have had The University of 5th Grade and what started as a fun way for me to include some of my passions turned into something the students really enjoyed.  It is never too early to teach kids about the benefits of going to college and inspire their dreams of the future.   Fear the Goat!

     Class Motto:
Be bold enough to use your voice,
brave enough to listen to your heart,
and strong enough to live the life you've always imagined.
