  • GRAPEVINE BAND WINS UIL SWEEPSTAKES

The Grapevine High School Concert Bands participated in UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest at Haltom HS this week. These are the second and third phases of a three-part evaluation that Texas Bands have undergone since the 1930’s. Each phase of competition includes a panel of three judges. In order for a band to earn the highest possible score, at least two out of three judges must award a “first division” or superior rating. The UIL Sweepstakes is designed to reward excellence in the three most measurable aspects of public school band curriculum – marching, prepared concert performance and the ability to sight read music “on the spot”.  The Grapevine High School Marching Band earned 1st Division Superior ratings last Fall and the Varsity and Non-Varsity Concert Bands received 1st Division Superior ratings this week from the UIL Concert Judges. The GHS Sub Non-Varsity received ratings of Excellent for their performances.   The distinction of "Sweepstakes" was awarded to the GHS Band Program for the Superior ratings in both the Fall and Spring UIL competitions.  The bands are now preparing for their competition in Corpus Christi on April 28, and their Spring Concert on May 16.

    Congratulations Mustang Band!
