Weather Updates

  • Friday Weather Update - Early Dismissal

Due to deteriorating winter weather conditions, high school and middle school students are being dismissed early from school today. Release times are 11:30 a.m. for high school (buses) and 12:15 p.m. for middle school, and 1 p.m. for elementary school. High school drivers will be released at 11:15 a.m., in advance of the buses. Buses will run regular routes on the early release schedule. Parents are welcome to pick up their child at any time. The KidzU after-school care program will be available until 4 p.m. today at all elementary campuses. If conditions worsen, KidzU personnel will contact parents directly to discuss an earlier pick up.

Additionally, after-school activities for Friday, February 27, and into Saturday morning, February 28, have been cancelled. If conditions improve throughout the day on Saturday, GCISD personnel will discuss the possibility of continuing these activities. Please check our event rescheduling page for updates on cancelled events. We will work as quickly as possible to reschedule these events and will communicate changes through our sponsors, schools and on the district and school websites. Thank you and please drive safely. The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for not only recognition, but also scholarships. Students enter this competition by taking the PSAT/NMSQT. Across the U.S., 50,000 students with the highest scores qualify for recognition in the program. In September, these students are notified as either Commended or National Merit Semifinalists--only about 16,000 students reach the Semifinalist level.

In February, 15,000 of the Semifinalists are announced as Finalists in the program. All winners of the scholarship awards are selected from the Finalist group. Students are evaluated based on their abilities, skills and accomplishments.

Text "Yes" to 68453 to subscribe.  GHS will send texts for non-emergency messages such as meeting reminders, schedule changes and other important school information.  The district will use the text function primarily to inform parents, students and staff of weather-related closings or delays, emergency response situations and important district news.  Text messages will be one of the first notifications parents receive in the event of weather-related or emergency notices.  To opt out at any time, text "Stop" to 68453.
