AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a 6th-12th grade elective course and school-wide support system designed to prepare students for college success. AVID has a proven track record nationwide for both bringing out the very best in individuals and ensuring that they are eligible and ready to enter a four-year college or university after high school graduation. Students who apply and are selected to participate in the AVID elective course in GCISD’s secondary campuses meet regularly with tutors and experience a curriculum designed to help them identify points of confusion in their coursework, learn organizational strategies, and develop academic habits that will serve them well through their high school and college careers.
