___________________________________________________________ Special Olympics Parent Advisory Committee Formed A Special Olympics Parent Advisory Group was formed for the 2011-2012 school year. Parent representatives
were recruited from the elementary, middle, and high schools, including transition. Care was taken to recruit
parents with athletes of various ability levels. The first meeting of this group was held October 11, 2011 at the
PDEC. The parents were provided a program concerning the history of GCISD Special Olympics and its place in the
district and the community. The parents then discussed the need for the advisory group and their values
and mission for the GCISD program: 1. Be inclusive of all athletes 2. Oversee fiscal responsibility 3. Lead parent networking and seek community support 4. Work on fundraising ideas, including athlete involvement. The group discussed needs for the state bowling tournament. The parent advisory group will
