Background:     I have 3 college degrees so far in Chemistry, Petroleum Engineering Technology and GeoEcology.  I was a US Navy Medical Corpsman during the last of Vietnam serving with a nuclear submarine squadron and several hospitals.  I still use the medical skills with a part time job filling prescriptions.  I was a research and development chemist with a petroleum chemical specialty company for 7 years before domestic production fell in the 80’s.   I have 24 years teaching science from 8th grade to college level and AP classes.  I am a certified private pilot, skydiver, advanced hang glider pilot and open water scuba diver.   I have filled every summer with part time jobs from assisting with medical research at UTSW and working with the B-2 Bomber project to 3 years consulting with Texas Instruments on research and quality control analysis on computer chip manufacturing.   I spent the 2009 summer at graduate school training with the new TEA / UT Dallas Engineering Education Institute to start offering the new state Engineering Curriculum in 2010.

Teaching Philosophy:   Make the learning both important and relevant to everyday life.  I believe that all of our students are capable of great achievements.  It is my job to not only teach the fundamentals of science and technology, but to help them see themselves as capable and successful in life.   I firmly believe that every child has the potential to live out their dreams.   This is the age at which students must start taking responsibility for their lives and learning.   I team with parents to lay down the path for success, but it is up to the student to move down the road.   By occasionally making class fun and active in the processes of science I attempt to motivate them to strive for their own best efforts.

Personal statement:   Don’t just dream about life… get out there and work as hard as you can to achieve everything you can.    You'll be amazed at what you can do if you try.
