PTA Annual Reflections Contest

PTA held their annual reflections contest prior to the winter holiday.  CMS advanced 7 entries to the area PTA. They are the following students:  Quincy Benvegnu, Nancy Varughese, Hannah Estes, Olivia Bradshaw, Chris Nguyen, Sarah Hickey and Christine Garcia.

Even more exciting, 2 CMS students have advanced to STATE level!!!  This is amazing due to the fact that over 60,000 students participate in the reflections contest and less than 3% advance to state level.

Those honors go to: 6th grader   Quincy Benvegnu- Film Production

6th grader    Nancy Varughese- Dance Choreography.

Congratulations to our CMS Math Club!!!

Some of our math club members recently participated in the AMC 8 American Mathematics Competition.  Special recognition goes out to our own Justin Yan who finished in the top 1 percent nationally with a score of 22 and Ali Ashai who placed in the top 5 percent nationally with a score of 19.

At CMS, the top four finishers were Justin Yan, Ali Ashai, Grant Wang, and in a tie for 4th place was Luka Valencic and Vidula Khanduri.  This competition is a national competition that the best mathematicians across the country participate in making the CMS finish even more impressive.

Congratulations to all our young CMS mathematicians in this extremely tough competition.

Academic Excellence Indicator System

Please click on this link to access the 2011-2012 Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS) reports for your campus

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

http://www.gcisd-k12.org/Page/26063 The AEIS report for 2011-2012 will look different than reports in the past for both elementary and middle school campuses as they do not include state assessment data.  None of the reports for 2011-2012 include gold performance acknowledgements or new state accountability ratings.  All of these are as a result of the implementation of the new STAAR and STAAR EOC assessment system.

Current reports for elementary and middle school campuses will include demographic data of both students and staff.  If you would like to see the district Annual Performance Report for 2011-2012 please visit the GCISD website>departments>Assessment and Research>Accountability>2012 Annual Performance Report.

  • NUTRITIONAL NEWS...

This school year Nutritional Services made a change to the charging policy allowing students to charge reimbursable meals regardless if they had a positive balance. Unfortunately, negative balance totals are significantly higher and we are unable to collect the monies owed. Therefore, GCISD Child Nutrition Services will be returning to the former charging policy as stated in the student handbook.  Beginning December 1, students who owe $10 or more for unpaid meals will not be allowed to make additional charges and instead will receive an alternative meal consisting of a cheese sandwich and milk.  We regret to make this change to our former practice but the amount of unpaid accounts had dramatically increased this year.

Our GCISD Child Nutritional Services department will mail letters  to families that owe $10 or more today to explain this change and included with the letter will be an application for the free and reduced meal program.

    R E M I N D E R:

Middle schools: Students who do not have a positive balance will only be allowed to charge up to $10 in school meal charges. Students will receive an alternative meal of a cheese sandwich and milk.  Students may not charge a la carte items at any time they do not have a positive account balance.
