GCISD
has a variety of committees and advisory groups. The groups have
different purposes: some may be organized to encourage patron input
and involvement, others are intended to serve as advisors to the
Superintendent, and certain short-term committees may be formed
to review procedures and/or requirements for a specific area.
The various GCISD groups are listed below with general information
about their purpose, membership and meetings. A contact person is
listed with each one for more information.
Cheerleader
Advisory Committee
Purpose:
The Cheerleader Advisory Committee is formed as needed to review
the district cheerleader constitution and tryout procedures, and
make recommendations for changes to district administration.
Membership:
Parent, cheerleader, staff and sponsor representatives.
Meetings:
As needed.

District Excellence Committee
The
District Excellence Committee, as well as Campus Excellence Committees
at each school, serves to promote continuous improvement and shares
planning and decision making with those individuals closest to the
level affected. The ongoing goal of this site-based and collaborative
approach is improved student achievement.
Purpose:
The purpose of a DEC/CEC is to ensure a student-sensitive,
collaborative process in decentralized decision making in a way
that:

focuses on student achievement

promotes continuous improvement

ensures that collaborative decision making occurs closest to the
level of impact
-
encourages risk-taking and creativity in the decision-making process
-
recognizes the uniqueness of each campus
-
builds trust and mutual respect
-
promotes open communication

creates a sense of community
values the time and commitment necessary for optimal implementation

effectively utilizes available resources
Membership:
The DEC is comprised of the following members:
- One
elected teacher/professional support staff representative from
each campus/at least two-thirds of the elected teacher/professional
support staff representatives must be classroom teachers (19)

An elementary and secondary representative selected by campus
administrators (2)

A central office designee chosen on a rotating basis to provide
representation from personnel who are closest to the impact of
the subject matter (1)
A parent representative from each campus to be selected by a campus
committee composed of the Principal (or designee) and the parent
organizations’ leaders (19)

Business leader representatives recommended by the Chambers of
Commerce of Colleyville, Grapevine and Euless (3)
-
Community member representation solicited throughout the community
to ensure diverse representation (3)

The Superintendent serves as an ex-officio member (1)
Election
and selection processes are completed in the spring of the prior
school year. Appointed members will serve two-year staggered terms.
Members are limited to two consecutive two-year terms at a time.
Officers shall be elected and include a chairperson, vice chairperson
and secretary. Terms are for one year. The chairperson is responsible
for the development of an agenda for each meeting.
Meetings: The DEC meets a minimum of four times during
the school year. Interested shareholders are welcome to attend.

Diversity Advisory Council
Purpose: The Diversity Advisory Council serves to create
awareness, understanding and appreciation of differences within
the school district and GCISD community.
RESPECT
FOR DIVERSITY (statement of expectation)
The
Grapevine-Colleyville Indpendent School District believes that all
people make contributions to our world. To that end, it is the expectation
that all members of this education community will demonstrate respect,
understanding and sensitivity toward the feelings and beliefs of
others. In an effort to overcome biases and predudices, Grapevine-Colleyville
Independent School Distrcit esteems behavior which models respectful
posture for the uniqueness and diversity among people. It is believed
that when students learn to value differences, embrace diversity

Emergency
Operations Planning Team
Purpose:
The Emergency Operations Planning Team is comprised of district
administrators, counselors and SRO officers, as well as city emergency
management representatives from both Grapevine and Colleyville.
Membership:
The committee currently represents those who are in the
position of setting and monitoring district-wide practices which
need to be in place in order to effectively respond to a crisis
involving our schools.

Employee Benefits Advisory Committee
Meeting
Minutes
Purpose:
To review, evaluate and recommend employee insurance plans and other
related benefits for GCISD employees.
Membership:
The membership consists of the following:

School
Health Advisory Council (SHAC)
Formerly known as the Health Education Advisory Council (HEAC)
Purpose:
The
Council will support the provision of age-appropriate curricula
which promote, protect and maintain the physical, mental, and emotional
health of all students. Serving as a liaison between student, families,
schools and community, the Council will ensure health and physical
education compliance with the Texas Education Code.
Goals:
1. Recommend a scope and sequence for the instruction of issues
concerning human sexuality which is in compliance with Senate Bill
One in keeping with the philosophy of our community; and in the
best interest of the health of each student.
2.
Ensure that the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD physical education programs
are in compliance with Senate Bill 19, which promote healthy minds
and bodies for the development of lifelong learners who respect
the need for lifelong physical activity.
3.
Promote healthy choices for nutrition and fitness among students
by providing information through courses, forums, news media, and
school-to-community organizations.
4.
Evaluate and recommend programs and resource materials which support
the TEKS-based curricula for personal safety in the areas of child
abuse, neglect and assault.
Membership:
-
Persons who represent the diverse views in the community about
human sexuality instruction,
- Parents
of students enrolled in the district as a majority of the council;
and
- Teachers,
school administrators, students, health care professionals, members
of the business community, law enforcement representatives, senior
citizens, clergy, or other interested persons.
Meetings:
Three to five meetings will be required and will take place between
August and April. The Board will be presented with the committee’s
recommendation in May with expected implementation in the next school
year.

Substance
Abuse and Violence Prevention Coalition
Purpose:
The Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention Coalition works
to ensure that all students have the internal strengths and external
supports they need and that adults in their lives are equipped to
effectively guide and support them. Members of the committee include
faculty, staff, police officers, students, parents, business and
community leaders.
The
purpose is to raise awareness of substance abuse issues by providing
and supporting educational and informational programs such as: Red
Ribbon Drug Awareness Celebration, DARE, Every 15 Minutes - Drunk
Driving Prevention Program, Safe Homes Directory, Speakers Bureau,
Drug and Violence Prevention Resource Library, Adult/Student Mentor
Program, Parent to Parent, SADD - Students Against Destructive Decisions,
PALS - Peer Assisted Leadership Skills, DAVE - Drug and Violence
Education, Project Graduation and the Alcohol and Drug Pledge.
Membership:
Membership is open to anyone wishing to serve.

Meetings are one hour every other month and are held in the Administration
Building Conference Room A from 4-5 p.m. For more information, please

GC
Education Foundation
(Although
this is not a district committee, the Foundation supports the district’s
educational programs and committee members are patrons actively
involved in GCISD activities.)
Purpose:
The Grapevine-Colleyville Education Foundation was created to support
the educational programs of GCISD. The Foundation will provide funds
beyond the normal operating budget for educational programs and
activities for students and staff. Foundation funds will be used
to facilitate student achievement and skill development, recognize
and encourage staff excellence and expand community involvement
from individuals, businesses and civic organizations.
Key goals include:

Encourage all students to work to their highest potential.
• Reward teachers for innovative efforts and exemplary teaching.
• Build public awareness and confidence in our schools.
• Involve the community in assuring a quality education
for the leaders and workers of tomorrow.
Membership:
The Foundation is a nonprofit, tax-exempt public corporation
operating independently under a board of directors serving without
compensation. The Board of Directors represents a cross-section
of individuals in the community who have a sincere interest in our
students and their success.
Meetings:
The Board meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, with the exception
of November, April, May and July.
