Accelerated Reader |
Colleyville Elementary is very excited to be able to offer our students the opportunity to use a reading program called Accelerated Reader. This program encourages children to read by offering prizes for points accumulated. It also makes taking a comprehension test more interesting because tests are taken on a computer. This program is currently used in over 12,000 schools and by more than 3 million students. Accelerated Reader is an individualized program that allows each student to move at his or her own pace and level of ability. The program is very motivational and easy to follow. A student chooses a book, reads the book and takes a test over the book. Each book has been identified as to reading level and awarded a point value based on length and level of difficulty. Students acquire points and are awarded prizes for certain points attained. Parents play an integral part in their child's education. The Accelerated Reader was invented by two parents trying to encourage their children to read. Their motivational reading program swiftly spread throughout their neighborhood, to their children's school, to their school district, and now across the nation! Parents are an important part of the Accelerated Reader program, too. Parents may read to or with their children, listen to their children read, or encourage their children to read independently. Parents may also discuss the books read. Research proves that reading only improves through the act of reading, so Accelerated Reader will hopefully inspire your children to read and thus improve their reading ability! Please encourage your children to read EVERY day and actively participate in this exciting program. |
