Bucks and Coins Bank

Banking Hours: Fridays from 12:30-1:30

Colleyville Bucks and Coins National Bank and Washington Mutual are working together in a joint venture to encourage our students to experience the real world through a didactic environment, which emphasizes science, math, and technology. We work together to bring all facets of the banking industry into the school by creating an experiential banking model for the students of Colleyville Elementary School.

This project revolves around a set of activities in which all students K-5 have the opportunity for hands-on learning of specific banking operations emphasizing current technological research and money management.

The employees of the bank are selected from our fifth grades students who participated in banking during the fourth grade. The students receive training on their specific jobs and supervision on banking days from Lucy McManus and Dee Kelley, the PTA parents in charge of the bank. The individual Kids' Savings Accounts are at Washington Mutual.

We believe that the bank provides our students with the opportunity to realize the relationship and connection of their school studies to their future real life experiences and applications. It is helping our students become the productive thinkers and informed decision-makers of the twenty-first century.

The Bucks and Coins National Bank is open for business every Friday from 12:30 to 1:30. New accounts may be opened at any time. Paperwork should be sent to the office.

Students are issued passbooks that are kept in their classrooms. Deposit slips are returned so that students and parents are aware of account balances. The accounts are interest bearing with statements being sent by Washington Mutual.
