Definition of Homework
Homework may be any preparation, work or activity that a pupil does on non-school time at the request or with the consent of his or her teacher.

Homework Position Statement
Homework in the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District is an essential extension of the learning process for each student. It should reinforce and extend classroom activities in a way that:

  • ensures a meaningful application of knowledge;
  • communicates clear expectations to students and parents;
  • respects time appropriateness for each grade level;
  • utilizes study and time management skills;
  • provides timely feedback to students; and
  • promotes a link between school and home.

Our goal is that students view learning as a lifelong process enabling them to achieve their maximum potential and meet future challenges.

Guidelines for Teachers
Teachers should:

  • assign homework which reinforces learning in progress, not practice on
    learning not yet taught or understood.
  • provide timely feedback and return all homework.
  • give appropriate advance notice of homework assignments, though some
    assignments are assigned daily.
  • be sensitive to the time required to complete an assignment.
  • make every effort to coordinate deadlines for major assignments with other
    teachers/calendar events.
  • consider the cost and availability of materials and resources.

    or completing homework.

    skills and on their grades.
  • make every effort to complete homework assignments.
  • reserve enough time in their schedule to complete their homework.
  • study in a place which is conducive to learning.
