| Encompassing the cities of Grapevine, Colleyville and the northern portion of Euless, GCISD covers 51.4 square miles in northeast Tarrant County. The area offers the convenience of city life with the relaxed feeling of a small-town community. Adjacent to the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, the world's busiest airport, the district is truly located at the Texas gateway to the world. The area boasts some of the fastest business and residential growth in the metroplex. While the school district has attracted relocating families who value education, the business community has responded with the addition of numerous top-rate restaurants, retail shops and entertainment facilities. Located midway between Dallas and Fort Worth, GCISD residents have easy access to outstanding recreational offerings. The Dallas Cowboys play football at nearby Texas Stadium in Irving and are building a new stadium in Arlington, where the Ballpark at Arlington is home base for the Texas Rangers baseball club. Recreation extends beyond the immediate area to include the Six Flags Over Texas amusement park in Arlington and Fair Park in Dallas. Fair Park is the home of the largest state fair in the nation each October and serves as a cultural, recreational and entertainment center during the rest of the year. Year-round dramatic offerings are provided by civic, professional, college and university theater groups, and numerous dinner theaters. Those pursuing advanced educational opportunities have access to eight major universities: Southern Methodist University, Texas Christian University, Texas Wesleyan University, Texas Woman's University, University of Dallas, University of North Texas, University of Texas at Arlington and University of Texas at Dallas. The Dallas County College and Tarrant County College districts provide academic, technical and vocational education in both day and evening programs.
