Good
4U entrees are now available in GCISD school cafeterias twice
a week, providing students with another healthy alternative
for lunch. With the recent news reports indicating an increase
in childhood obesity, the staff of Child Nutrition Services
at GCISD developed lower-fat recipes to ensure that 30 percent
or less of the calories come from fat, as recommended in the
Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
These
Good 4U entrees will be marked with a special card on the
serving lines and noted on the printed menus by a heart symbol.
Entrees will be available twice a week and more often as recipes
are developed. In addition to the "Good 4U" choices,
students may select baked potato and chef salad choices, which
also have been reformulated to fit the lower-fat guidelines,
and those are available daily.
