Summer school locations and dates announced

Dates and places for the summer school programs for students have been set, with all beginning on June 9.

School-based clinic now open in GCISD
    calendar

The newest JPS school-based health center is now open and serving GCISD students and their siblings. Made possible through a partnership between GCISD and the Tarrant County Hospital District/John Peter Smith Health Network, the clinic opened last week and has already provided care for a number of GCISD families.

Community members joined JPS and GCISD officials, as well as local, county and state representatives, for a dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting on Jan. 16. Students in GCISD's pre-kindergarten bilingual and English for Speakers of Other Languages classes entertained guests with poems and songs, then visitors were invited to tour the facility.

The clinic is located in the former GCISD Instructional Service Center adjacent to Timberline Elementary in Grapevine. It is JPS' eighth school-based clinic, and the first in northern Tarrant County. The center serves children enrolled in GCISD and their siblings under age 18.

    TAKS testing date changed

The Texas Education Agency has adjusted the state testing calendar to accommodate the March 4 primary election day. No exams of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) will be given on that day.

Under the new calendar, all tests scheduled for March 4-6 will now be given March 5-7. The exit-level TAKS Social Studies exam originally scheduled for March 7 will now be administered March 13.

As a result, Colleyville Heritage and Grapevine high schools have modified the A/B calendar to designate March 4 as an "A" day. Other GCISD schools may also be adjusting schedules for various activities and events. Please check with your campus for complete schedule listings.

    Around the District

GCISD has a variety of exciting events and activities happening every week at campuses throughout the District. From PTA meetings and school programs to District celebrations and student achievements, you're sure to find something in Around the District.

How to find out if schools are closed due to bad weather
    ice

Cold has finally arrived, bringing with it the chance of icy roads and conditions that may make it necessary for the schools in Grapevine-Colleyville ISD to be closed for the safety of students and staff.

If schools are to close due to inclement weather, a special FastNews email newsletter will be sent to subscribers advising them of the decision. An announcement will be posted on the District's website as soon as the decision has been made. In addition, parents and students are advised to listen to local radio or television stations for a current news report.

March 24 and June 5 have been designated as bad weather makeup days for any days missed.
