    Board approves 2008-2009 Student/Teacher Calendar

During its regular meeting Monday night, the GCISD Board of Trustees approved the 2008-2009 student/teacher calendar. On this calendar, which is supported by the District Excellence Committee and the majority of the community, the first day of school will be Monday, August 25, 2008.

State law requires that public schools begin classes no earlier than the fourth Monday in August, and local waivers for an earlier school start date are no longer an option. Two calendar options were drafted and presented to the community for feedback. A total of 2,337 responses were received this year and 66 percent of respondents selected the calendar with the week-long break at Thanksgiving. Spring break

    GCISD teachers are 'Highly Qualified'
