HISTORY OF GCISD

1869 - Grapevine Masonic Lodge built first area school
1887 - Grapevine College – private school
1907 - Grapevine College designated as state high school – corner of Austin and Worth streets
1908 - First graduating class – 1 student
1936 - Pleasant Glade School consolidated with Grapevine schools
1938 - Central Elementary School was built with Works Progress Administration labor
1939 - Miller School consolidated with Grapevine schools.
1948 - Minters Chapel School consolidate with Grapevine schools.
1948 - Afro-American Elementary School was built.
1952 - Opened Grapevine High School on Worth Street (later Grapevine Middle School site)
1954 - GHS and Administration building (both on Worth Street) were remodeled, adding elementary classrooms
1956 - GHS added "new and very up-to-date" Homemaking Department and Vocational Agriculture building was added
1959 - Original high school became district’s administration building
1959 - Cannon Elementary School built first wing – 1963 another wing added
1961 - Grapevine ISD consolidated with Colleyville ISD
1962 - Central Elementary School added cafeteria and band hall
1963 - GHS added new wing and gymnasium
1963 - Colleyville Elementary School built
1969 - Opened Grapevine High on Mustang Drive – Old GHS building on Worth Street became Grapevine Middle School
1972 - Opened Dove Elementary School
1975 - Opened Colleyville Middle School and district became known as Grapevine-Colleyville ISD
1979 - Timberline Elementary – opened 1979 – 1981
1986 - Opened O.C. Taylor Elementary
1988 - Opened Bear Creek Elementary
1990 - Opened Grapevine Junior High School (later renamed Cross Timbers Middle)
1991 - Opened Heritage Elementary
1992 - Opened Heritage Middle
1993 - Opened Bransford Elementary
1994 - Opened Grapevine Elementary
1995 - Opened Glenhope Elementary and Silverlake Elementary
1996 - Opened Colleyville Heritage High
1996 - Re-opened Cross Timbers Middle School (from 9th Grade center Grapevine Junior High)
1997 - Opened new primary building at Timberline Elementary

2000 - New Mustang-Panther Stadium opened
2001 - New Grapevine Middle opened (301 Pony Parkway)
2002 - Renovations and construction projects to all campuses and facilities completed with funds from 1998 Bond Program
