GCISD
principal to take helm at CHHS
A familiar face
will be walking the halls of Colleyville Heritage High School in
the fall. But this time, she’ll be principal.
The Grapevine-Colleyville
ISD Board of Trustees at a special meeting on July 11 approved the
appointment of Becky Prentice to the position of principal at Colleyville
Heritage High, effective July 17. Prentice, 46, succeeds Dr. Robin
Ryan, who served as principal at CHHS since 2004.
“It is
such an honor to be selected as the new principal of Colleyville
Heritage High School,” Prentice said. “Although I am
sad to be leaving the Colleyville Middle School family, I am excited
to return to the wonderful staff, fantastic students and supportive
parents of CHHS. Together, we will move forward with the exciting
plans that will continue to characterize CHHS as one of the premier
high schools in the nation.”
Prentice began
her career with the district in 1991 as a math teacher at Grapevine
High, where she taught for three years. Following that, she taught
math and was math department coordinator at Grapevine Junior High
for two years before joining the CHHS team in 1996. She earned her
mid-management certification in 1998, working at CHHS as administrative
intern as part of her certification requirements. She then served
as assistant principal/dean of instruction at CHHS until 2002, when
she was named principal at CMS. She has also served as assistant
principal and then principal of GCISD Secondary Summer School. Prior
to joining GCISD, Prentice taught math in Round Rock ISD and Carrollton-Farmers
Branch ISD.
At CHHS, she was chief writer of the school’s application
for U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon program, an application
that led to CHHS being named a national Blue Ribbon School in May
2002. In addition, she was campus director of the advanced placement/gifted
and talented program, campus staff development coordinator and coordinator
of the Distinguished Achievement program. She served as new teacher
liaison, and performed various duties including discipline, faculty
evaluations and facilitation of TAAS preparation programs.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for both Becky and GCISD,”
said Superintendent Dr. Kay Waggoner. “She has been with the
district for many years and has a proven track record here. She
has extensive experience at the high school level, and a true love
of this community. I am excited for the students, parents and staff
at Colleyville Heritage, and for the district as a whole.”
Prentice earned
a bachelor’s in education with honors in 1981 from the University
of Texas and a master’s in teaching in 1996 from UT-Arlington.
She also holds a mid-management certification, has served on numerous
District and state education committees, and has participated in
various academic/instructional leadership programs.
She is a member
of the National Middle School Association, Association of Texas
Professional Educators, Association for Secondary Curriculum and
Development, Texas Staff Development Council, National Staff Development
Council, Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, and Phi
Delta Kappa.
Prentice and
her husband, Al, live in Colleyville. She has two children; Taylor,
21, and Connor, 18, who both attend college, as well as two step-daughters
and three step-grandchildren.
