What’s Happening This Week
• Cannon Summer Reading Club
Tonight is the final night of the 10th annual Cannon Summer Reading
Club at Cannon Elementary. Students and their parents can participate
in a variety of fun and educational activities for free. Activities
include age-appropriate reading centers, math sheets, writing areas,
science explorations, arts and crafts, story time, face painting
and goal setting. Cannon Elementary teachers coordinate the academic
center and parents are encouraged to participate with their children.
Activities are available from 6:30-8 p.m. Several local organizations
also contributed to the program including the Colleyville Woman’s
Club, National Charity League and Interact Rotary at Grapevine High.

Band accepting silent auction donations
The Colleyville Heritage High School Band is accepting donations
of goods or services for its 2006 Extravaganza and Silent Auction.
This year, the annual fund-raiser will feature a preview of the
band’s 2006 show, “West Side Story” by Leonard
Bernstein. The band hopes to raise $11,000 to fund clinicians for
the students as well as the materials needed for the band’s
equipment trailer. The event will be Aug. 25 at the CHHS Student

• GCISD accepting volunteers for
health council
Grapevine-Colleyville ISD is accepting applications for five parent/community
volunteers to serve on the district’s School Health Advisory
Council, formerly the Health
Education Advisory Council. The purpose of the council is to
support the provision of age-appropriate programs that promote,
protect and maintain the physical, mental and emotional health of
all students. The council also ensures health and physical education
compliance with the Texas Education Code. An application is available

must be approved by the school board before the council’s

Upcoming Calendar Items
• GCISD registration for 2006-2007
Registration for Heritage Elementary is July 24-25. All other GCISD
elementary schools will register students on July 31-Aug.1. Middle
school and high school students will register in early August. Dates,
times and other pertinent back-to-school information for specific

• CHHS Color Guard to deliver for
Sonic
The Colleyville Heritage High School Color Guard will team with
Sonic Drive-In at 2240 Hall-Johnson Road in Grapevine for a fund-raiser
on July 29. Throughout the day, members of the color guard will
deliver food orders for tips and donations. All funds collected
will be applied to clinician fees and the 2006-2007 competition

• Season tickets for varsity
football on sale
Season tickets for Colleyville Heritage and Grapevine High varsity
football games will be on sale for current season-ticket holders
from July 31-Aug. 16 at the GCISD Swim Center, 2305 Pool Road. Tickets
may be purchased from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays-Wednesdays, 10 a.m.-7
p.m. Thursdays and 8 a.m.-Noon Fridays. Season ticket sales will
be open to the public beginning Aug. 21. The five-game packet for
