GCISD
educator selected to participate in Transatlantic Outreach Program
Grapevine
High School social studies teacher, Margaret Telford,
has been selected as one of 80 individuals to travel to Germany
this summer as a member of one of the Transatlantic Outreach Program’s
(TOP) study/travel tours sponsored by a public-private partnership
initiative between the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of
Germany, the Goethe-Institut, Deutsche Bank, and the Robert Bosch
Foundation.
The program
aims to enhance the quality of classroom teaching about Germany
today by developing and disseminating teaching materials about modern
Germany for K-12 social studies educators and social studies methods
for professors at the university level and by organizing study/travel
tours to Germany.
Many social
studies educators have a desire to include the study of contemporary
Germany in the school curriculum to foster global understanding
from an international perspective. The Transatlantic Outreach Program
satisfies this desire by:
• providing up-to-date, U.S. educator-designed, instructional
kits about modern Germany for K-12 US and Canadian social studies
educators;
• promoting in-service teacher training; and
• offering all-expense-paid study/travel tours to Germany
for social studies educators.
The
participants of the study tours are expected to contribute lesson
plans to the program and to offer in-service training to other educators
about teaching modern Germany.
