What’s Happening This Week
High school open house tonight
Open house activities for both Colleyville Heritage and Grapevine high schools will be tonight. For information, contact your home campus.
- CHHS – PTSA meeting/meet the principal at 6 p.m., auditorium. Open house is 7-9 p.m.
- GHS – PTSA meeting/meet the principal at 6 p.m., auditorium. Open house is 6:30-8:30 p.m. PTA will also be collecting monetary donations as part of “Greenback Night,” its only fund-raiser for the year.
GCISD Council meeting and parent education program
The GCISD Council of PTAs will host its first general meeting at 6 p.m. Sept. 12 in the Cross Timbers Middle School Lecture Hall. The program will be the parent preview of “Choosing the Best,” the video shown to sixth- and seventh-grade students about puberty. The program will be presented by the GCISD Science, Health and Physical Education Department. A morning parent preview of this program will also be presented from 10-11 a.m. on Sept. 12 in the CTMS Library. Information: Dr. Terry Dickson-Talley, 817-251-5519.
CORRAL set for Friday
Corral, a PTSA-sponsored party after home football games for Grapevine High School students, will host its first gathering of the 2006 season on Sept. 15. The event starts immediately after the GHS football game and ends at 12:30 a.m. All GHS students are encouraged to attend and may bring two high school-age guests. The event will be in the Student Activity Center and Gym 1 at GHS. A valid high school ID is required to enter. Admission is $5 per person and includes all food and beverages. Timberline to host garage sale
Timberline Elementary is hosting a garage sale benefiting the school nurse’s fund and the TES Garden Club. Event will be 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 15-16 at the school. CHHS Choir hosts fund-raiser at Applebee’s
The Colleyville Heritage High School Choir will host a fund-raiser on Sept. 21 at Applebee’s Restaurant and Grill, 5150 Colleyville Blvd. in Colleyville. Patrons simply present a coupon to their server and Applebee’s will donate 10 percent of each purchase to the CHHS Choir. See any CHHS Choir member for a coupon. PSAT/SAT Prep Seminar
A preparation seminar for students planning to take either the PSAT or SAT exam will be 12:30-5:30 p.m. Sept. 24 in the Colleyville Heritage High Auditorium. The seminar is conducted by Test Prep Seminars and will teach test-taking tips and strategies specific to the SAT as well as general test-taking skills. Cost is $90 and includes a study guide with answer book and three workbooks with 18, 20-minute sample workouts. For information, contact your high school counselor at your home campus.
GCISD Board of Trustees meeting
The Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Board of Trustees will meet for its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Sept. 25 at the GCISD Administration Building, 3051 Ira E. Woods Ave. in Grapevine. Open session begins at 7 p.m. Information: 817-251-5503.
Awards and Announcements
CHHS senior nominated for Army Bowl
Matt Howe, a senior at Colleyville Heritage High School, has been nominated for the 2007 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. This nomination recognizes Howe as one of the nation’s top 400 football players. Only 80 of those 400 will be invited to play in the 2007 Bowl game, which will be aired live on Jan. 6, 2007, on NBC. Howe currently plays middle linebacker for the CHHS Panther varsity football team. Information: 817-251-5503.
Timberline hosting neighborhood meetings
Timberline Elementary Principal Dr. Rob Thornell and his staff will be hosting neighborhood meetings throughout September and October at or near the homes of Timberline families. All TES parents are invited to attend these opportunities to meet campus administration and other TES families in a casual environment. For specific meeting times and locations, contact the campus. GHS speech and debate teams start season strong
The Grapevine High School Oral Interpretation and Debate teams kicked off the competition season with several top five and quarterfinal finishes. In Oral Interpretation, Braeden Ayres and Casey Williams placed first in duet acting and qualified for the state tournament. Other individual honors included: Mia Avramescur, second, original oratory; Lauren Bird, fourth, original oratory; and Sara Baston, fifth, humorous interpretation. In Cross-Examination Debate, the following students won honors: Mike Gajewsky and Emily Hall, top seed and quarterfinalists; Eric Frazier and Shelby Pryor, quarterfinalists; and Tonia Beglari and Julian Melendez, semifinalists.
