ACT, SAT scores surpass state and national totals
Grapevine-Colleyville
ISD students once again demonstrated their college readiness based
on college-entrance exam results.
On
both exams, students scored higher than state and national scores.
More GCISD students (414) took the ACT exam in 2007 than in any
previous year. A total of 402 students took the exam in 2006. On
the SAT, a total of 821 students took the exam in 2007, down slightly
from the year before. The record was 856 students in 2006.
“Our
teachers continue to promote college readiness, and I’m pleased
that results continue to show that our students are excelling and
choosing to take advanced courses,” said Superintendent Kay
Waggoner. “The scores will heighten instructional focus for
the upcoming year.”
GCISD’s
ACT composite score for 2007 was 23.2, the second-highest number
in a 10-year period. The highest composite score was 23.5 in 2006.
SAT 2007 scores decreased in critical reading and in writing, and
stayed the same in math when compared to 2006.
A score summary of the breakdown specific to GCISD, including a
year-by-year comparison, is attached and can be found on the District’s
web site at www.gcisd-k12.org.
The ACT is considered the most widely accepted college entrance
exam in the United States. It assesses high school students’
general educational development and their ability to complete college-level
work. The exam tests students in English, math, reading and science
reasoning. A writing test is optional. The SAT is sponsored by the
College Examination Board and covers content areas of critical reading,
math and, beginning in 2006, writing.
