Texas
Rangers to visit Cannon Elementary
Two Texas Rangers baseball players and Rangers' mascot "Captain"
will visit students at Cannon Elementary on Friday as part of the
Rangers' Winter Caravan program. The Rangers will speak to students
in grades pre-kindergarten through five about the importance of

Silver Lake
families invited to movie night
The Silver Lake Elementary PTA is sponsoring a family movie night
beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the school. The featured movie
will be "Ratatouille." Students, parents and families
are invited to wear pajamas and bring blankets, sleeping bags and
pillows. Admission is free, and refreshments will be available for

Bear
Creek collecting socks for soldiers
The fifth-grade Community Kids at Bear Creek Elementary are encouraging
BCES families to donate socks to send to U.S. military personnel
serving in Iraq. Students will be collecting socks through Monday.

Registration
underway for Driver's Ed course
Registration is underway for the spring session of GCISD Driver's
Education. The session runs Monday-Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Jan. 28-Feb.
25 in room 106 at Grapevine High. Cost is $315 for GCISD students,
$365 for out-of-district students, pluse a $15 non-refundable registration

high school cheerleading meeting scheduled
An informational meeting for parents of any student interested in
trying out for cheerleader at Colleyville Heritage High or Grapevine
High for the 2008-2009 school year is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. January

theater presents 'Into The Woods'
Grapevine High Theatre students will present the musical "Into
The Woods" in six performances beginning Jan. 31. Show times
are 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Jan. 31, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Feb. 1, 7 p.m.
Feb. 2 and 2 p.m. Feb. 3. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for students
and senior citizens and $5 for children under age 7. Tickets and

CHHS theater presents
'Bye Bye Birdie'
Theater students at Colleyville Heritage High will present the musical
comedy "Bye Bye Birdie" in six performances beginning
Feb. 1. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Feb. 1-2, 7-9 and 2:30 p.m. Feb.
9. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students and can be purchased

Panteras to present 'Showcase of Dance'
The
Colleyville Heritage High Panteras dance team will present a
Spring Fling Showcase of Dance from 2-5 p.m. Feb. 2 in the CHHS
Main Gym. The 70-member team will perform dances showcasing styles
including modern, lyrical, jazz and prop. The Pantherettes junior
varsity team will entertain with jazz, modern and pompom routines.
Other performers will include the Panteras and Pantherettes officers,
CHHS dance classes, Colleyville Middle and Heritage Middle dance
teams, and dancers from local studios. The public is invited and

Fillies gear up for annual 5K and Fun Run
Registration is underway for the eighth-annual Fillie Trot 5K, 1-mile
and Fun Run, scheduled for Feb. 2 at Oak Grove Park near Lake Grapevine.
This annual event benefits the Beth DePertuis Memorial Fund and
the Grapevine High Fillies dance team. Early registration fee is
$15 per person, $12 each for teams of 10 or more. All entry fees
are an additional $5 after Jan. 28. Registration is available online

Curriculum Nights planned
Curriculum Night for current Colleyville Heritage High freshmen,
sophomores and juniors to plan next year's class schedules will
be Feb. 4. Eighth grade students who will be attending CHHS in the
fall will have an opportunity to visit with teachers and discuss
ninth-grade courses on Feb. 11. Information: 817-305-4700.

The next meeting of the Grapevine High School Project Graduation
Committee will be 7 p.m. Feb. 11 at the new Colleyville Elementary.

and Announcements
CHHS artists to exhibit in Dallas Museum of Art
Six Colleyville Heritage High studio art students have been selected
to participate in the 2008 Young Masters Juried Exhibition, which
showcases artwork from talented Dallas-area high school Advanced
Placement art students. A total of 37 pieces were selected for this
year's exhibition out of 244 entries. CHHS students invited to exhibit
are Ryan Filipski, Sabrina Luce, Sarah May, Davis Rutkauskas, Laura
Schnitzius and Julia Sladden. GHS students
Kristen Benton and Lauren Fink also were selected, and were recognized
in the January 14 issue of FastNews Around the District.
The Young Masters artwork will be on display from Feb. 29-April
13 at the Dallas Museum of Art. The Young Masters program is sponsored
by Advanced Placement Strategies, Inc., and the O'Donnell Foundation.
CMS
Spelling Bee winner named
Eighth-grader Lydia Lee won Colleyville Middle's annual Spelling
Bee and will represent CMS and GCISD in the area bee in February
at the Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum in Fort Worth. Runner up was
sixth-grader Ryan Hoffman. Congratulations to Lee and all the CMS
top spellers.
High school debaters earn top honors
Debate students at Colleyville Heritage and Grapevine high schools
have earned top-10 finishes in recent tournaments. The GHS policy
debate team of Jacob Quinn and Amy Schade won first in varsity cross-examination
debate at the Grand Prairie tournament and also qualified for the
state meet. With their qualifying, GHS is the first public or private
school to qualify six policy debate teams to the state tournament.
The CHHS Lincoln Douglas debate team made a strong showing at the
Churchill tournament in San Antonio. Individual recognition goes
to: Arti Bhatia, top eight; Rahim Sayani, top four; and Khurram
Ali, second place. Bhatia also was named the winner of the Naegilin
Award, which recognizes the senior debater who best exemplifies
teamwork, character, community service and excellence in speech
and debate.
PTA Council scholarship applications available
The GCISD Council of PTAs scholarship application for graduating
seniors is now available online. Students from Colleyville Heritage
and Grapevine high schools who are on track to graduate in May need
to complete the application and return it to the GHS or CHHS counseling
office by Noon on March 31. The application is available at www.gcisdcouncilofptas.org.
