Silver
Lake to host family reading night
Students and parents of Silver Lake Elementary are invited to the
annual Pajama Read-a-Rama from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the school.
Everyone is invited to wear pajamas and enjoy a night of reading,
storytelling and a book swap. Information: 817-251-5750.
Registration
underway for Driver's Ed course
Registration is underway for the spring session of GCISD Driver's
Education. The session runs Monday-Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Jan. 28-Feb.
25 in room 106 at Grapevine High. Cost is $315 for GCISD students,
$365 for out-of-district students, pluse a $15 non-refundable registration

GCISD
Board of Trustees meeting
The Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Board of Trustees will meet Jan. 14
for its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at the GCISD Administration
Building, 3051 Ira E. Woods Ave. in Grapevine. Open session begins
at 7 p.m. January is School Board Appreciation Month, and GCISD
schools will honor Trustees with posters, cards, etc., during the
Recognitions portion of the meeting. Information: 817-251-5503.
JPS
school-based health clinic to open
The GCISD/JPS school-based health center is scheduled to open Jan.
14 to provide general health care services for GCISD students and
their siblings up to age 18. The clinic is located in the District's
former Instructional Service Center next to Timberline Elementary
in Grapevine. The community is invited to a dedication event and
reception scheduled for 2 p.m. Jan. 16. Information: 817-251-5750.

Texas
Rangers to visit Cannon Elementary
Two Texas Rangers baseball players and Rangers' mascot "Captain"
will visit students at Cannon Elementary on Jan. 25 as part of the
Rangers' Winter Caravan program. The Rangers will speak to students
in grades pre-kindergarten through five about the importance of

Silver Lake
families invited to movie night
The Silver Lake Elementary PTA is sponsoring a family movie night
beginning at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at the school. The featured movie
will be Ratatouille. Students, parents and families are invited
to wear pajamas and bring blankets, sleeping bags and pillows. Admission
is free, and refreshments will be available for purchase. Information:

GCISD
high school cheerleading meeting scheduled
An informational meeting for parents of any student interested in
trying out for cheerleader at Colleyville Heritage High or Grapevine
High for the 2008-2009 school year is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. January
30 in the cafeteria at Heritage Middle School. Applications are

HMS
Spelling Bee winner named
Seventh-grader Hira Saleem, left, won Heritage Middle's
annual Scripps Spelling Bee and will represent HMS and GCISD in
the area bee in February at the Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum in
Fort Worth. Forty-seven students participated in the final round
of competition, and the last five remaining participants were Lana
Idris, Sydney Hall, Shaaz Lalain (runner-up), right, John
Richarson and Saleem. The winning word was perquisite.
Congratulations to Saleem and all the HMS top spellers.
CHHS
debaters win state, national tournaments
Two teams of debaters from Colleyville Heritage High recently placed
first in two separate tournaments at the state and national levels.
At the state level, students Andrew Murray and Alex Nasr competed
against 25 other teams from the Dallas area to take first in the
inaugural University of Texas at Dallas speech and debate contest.
Murray also was named first speaker at the tournament. At the national
level, the team of Evan Defilippis and James Hamraie placed first
in the Southern Bell Forum debate tournament, which featured 58
of the top high school debate teams in the country. Hamraie also
was named fifth best speaker at the tournament.
GHS Fillies gear up for annual 5K and Fun Run
Registration is underway for the eighth-annual Fillie Trot 5K, 1-mile
and Fun Run, scheduled for Feb. 2 at Oak Grove Park near Lake Grapevine.
This annual event benefits the Beth DePertuis Memorial Fund and
the Grapevine High Fillies dance team. Early registration fee is
$15 per person, $12 each for teams of 10 or more. All entry fees
are an additional $5 after Jan. 28. Registration is available online
