Early
voting continues
through tomorrow
Early voting continues through May 6 for the GCISD
Board of Trustees election, as well as for the Grapevine City Council
election. For GCISD's Board of Trustees Place 6, current trustee
Vince Rosen is being challenged in the election by Leon Leal. Place
7 candidates are Mia Green and Jorge Rodríguez. Place 7 incumbent
Freda Ward is not seeking re-election. Current trustee Jesse Rodríguez,
Place 5, is unopposed for his seat on the Board. Candidates are
elected to three year terms. Members of the Board of Trustees are
unpaid and do not represent specific geographic areas. Voting

CTMS
students present musical classic
CTMS Fine Arts department presents “The Music
Man, Jr.," at Grapevine High School's Madeline Hemley Auditorium,
May 8, 9 and 10.at 7:30 p.m. A special elementary performance will
be held at 10 a.m. on May 9. CTMS is the only middle school in GCISD
to produce a musical and this one features a cast of more than 50…not
to mention “76 Trombones!" For tickets or more information,

Bear
Creek invites all Moms to celebrate Muffins for Moms
Friday, May 9th Bear Creek Elementary will host Muffins for Moms
in the gym at 7:30 am for grades K-2. Then, one Monday, May 12th
we will be hosting Moms for grades 3-5 at 7:30 am. All BCE students
are encourage to bring their Mom or other special woman in their
life and enjoy a muffin and some coffee before school. Information:

GCISD
employees to be recognized at annual reception
"Honoring Education's Treasures" is the theme of this
year's employee appreciation reception set for May 8, 4 p.m. at
the Grapevine Convention Center. Recognition will extend to campus
teachers and paraprofessionals of the year, auxiliary employees
of the year, retirees and for length of service to the District.
The 2008-09 GCISD Elementary Teacher of the Year, Secondary Teacher
of the Year and Carolyn Frank Paraprofessional will be named during
this event, as will the GCISD Nurse of the Year. View

employees of the year.
Athletes
honored at Special Olympics banquet
Athletes
who participated in Special Olympics activities throughout the year
will be recognized at the 2008 Special Olympics Awards Banquet,
May 7, 11;45 a.m.-1:15 p.m. at the Grapevine Convention Center.

a Bear, Show You Care
Students may donate a brand new Teddy Bear for Cook
Children's Medical Center. Drop off locations will be availble at
each GCISD elementary school May 1-9. The Teddy Bear drive is being
sponsored by O.C. Taylor, whose students raised 450 bears in response
to a student's request. The student had two surgeries and received
comfort from teddy bears that she was given when she was admitted
to the hospital.

Taste Test fundraiser for GHS Juniors
GHS junior class will host the annual
Taste Test on May 16 to raise money for senior year events. Volunteers
are needed to taste food and give their opinions. Eight testing
sessions will be held during the hours of 10:20 a.m.-3:50 p.m. and
each complete taste test lasts about 30 minutes. To volunteer, contact
Carolina Wann at chwann@aol.com.
Bear
Creek Elementary Career Day
Students at Bear Creek Elementary K-5 will hear about various careers
as part of Career Day on Friday, May 23rd. About 70 parents and
community volunteers will speak to students throughout the day.
Nana Puddin' Productions will also be on our campus that day with
a program presented by
Joe Bruce regarding character education. Information: 817-305-4860.

Taste of Timberline
Timberline Elementary School students and families
are invited to attend A Taste of Timberline on Saturday, May 17,
11 a.m.- 3 p.m. The event is a multicultural celebration with food,
games, dancing and fun.

Project Graduation planning underway
The next meeting of the Grapevine High School Project Graduation
Committee will be May 13 at 7 p.m. at the Colleyville Elementary
School Library. Future meetings are scheduled May 20, May 27 and

Project Graduation fundraisers planned
GHS Project Graduation 2008 has teamed up with Smoothie King of
Southlake to offer smoothies for sale on Monday afternoons after
school near the student parking lot. Three types of smoothies will
be offered and will be sold for $3 each. A portion of the proceeds
goes to Project Graduation to fund the senior party. Contact: Cynthia
Becker, 817-300-9085 to help with sales.
Another
fundraiser for Project Graduation 2008 is being held at the McDonald’s
at Main St. & Hwy 114 on Thursday, May 8th, 5-8 p.m. Purchase
food and Project Graduation will receive 20% of the sales during
that time period. Raffle tickets for a bike will be on sale.
District's
childcare open to community this summer for preschool enrichment
The ECDC is open to the community this summer and will host enrichment
camps for children 3-5 years old. Beginning June 7th and ending
August 1st, the summer enrichment camps will focus on developmentally
appropriate themes and be offered on a weekly basis from 8:00 am
to 12:00 pm.
Extended care will be available to parents for the remainder of
the day. There will not be enrichment camps provided during the
week of June 30 -July 4. Download

Swim
Center to close for renovations
The GCISD Swim Center will be closed for renovation from
Saturday, May 17 through early August.
Fall class information and reopening updates will be posted on
the Swim Center website.
Driver's
Ed and Target classes set for summer
Summer classes for Driver's Education and TARGET Evening
Education program begin in June. Only one session, June 12-July
3, is scheduled for Driver's Education so students are encouraged
to sign up early if they are interested in taking the course during
the summer. Two sessions are planned for TARGET - June 9-20 and
June 23-July 3. Additional information is available on the District's

Free
breakfast and lunch offered to students this summer
The
Summer Food Service Program at Timberline Elementary provides free
meals to all children age 18 and younger. These meals provide essential
nutrients for active growing kids. To participate in the free meal
program, all kids have to do is show up at a serving site. Breakfast
is offered from 8:15 a.m. – 9 a.m. and lunch is offered 11:30
a.m. – 1 p.m. The entire meal must be consumed at the serving
site; absolutely no “to go” breakfasts or lunches are

Grapevine
High School earned eight nominations and Colleyville Heritage High
School earned nine from The Eighth Annual Betty Lynn Buckley Awards,
which celebrates excellence in musical theatre production among
participating Tarrant County high schools. GHS nominations are based
on its performance of "Into the Woods" and CHHS nominations
are based on the performance of "Bye Bye Birdie." Nominations
included Best Musical for both high schools, Best Orchestra and
Best Male Actor for both, plus other awards in a variety of categories.
