Deputy Superintendent joins GCISD today
Jim
F. Chadwell has joined the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD family today
as Deputy Superintendent. The Board of Trustees approved the appointment
of Chadwell, 38, at the August meeting.
Chadwell most
recently served in Northwest ISD as the Executive Director for Instruction
and Campus Support. In GCISD, his duties include supervising and
facilitating the overall k-12 instruction program including areas
of staff development, instructional technology and TAKS assessment.
He also will provide leadership for campus administrators, serve
as a community liaison and facilitate the District Excellence Committee.
“I am
excited about the opportunity to work with Jim and to have him on
board as a valued member of our administrative team,” said
Superintendent Dr. Kay Waggoner. “He has a passion for continual
improvement and collaborative leadership and will strengthen our
efforts to provide every student with an exemplary education.”
A teacher at
heart, Chadwell believes that every educator’s focus must
be first and foremost on students. He hopes to build on that committed
student focus to develop instructional leaders, strengthen instructional
programs and integrate continual improvement into every aspect of
the GCISD system.
“I am
very excited about the opportunity to serve students in Grapevine-Colleyville
ISD,” Chadwell said. “I believe in serving each student
in order to meet his or her unique needs, and I know the staff in
GCISD has the same belief. It’s a perfect fit.”
Chadwell is
no stranger to GCISD. He volunteered for five years in the District
and did his student teaching at Grapevine High School. He has served
in education for 14 years, 10 of those as a campus or central administrator.
He was named Texas’ Principal of the Year in 2005 while at
Northwest High School, where he served for seven years (August 1999-June
2006). Under his leadership, the campus was rated a National Blue
Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education, a Lighthouse
Mentor School by Blue Ribbon Schools, Inc., and an Intel/Scholastic
21st Century School of Distinction.
Prior to that,
he served as a high school assistant principal from 1997-1999 and
also has taught sociology, advanced placement psychology and German.
He briefly interned as a teacher in sociology, government and English
classes (held in English and German) in Hamburg, Germany, in 1993.
Chadwell holds
a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Political Science and
minor in German and a Master of School Administration degree, both
from Texas Christian University. He is currently pursuing his doctorate
in Educational Leadership at TCU.
He is chairperson
of the North Texas Fulbright Exchange Peer Review Committee; is
a board member of Blue Ribbon Schools, Inc., and North Texas Courage
and Renewal; and is a member of numerous education-affiliated organizations.
He is also an honorary lifetime member of the Texas PTA.
Chadwell lives
in Trophy Club with his wife Julie and two young children, Graeson
and Emerson.
