District
partners with JPS for school-based health center
New clinic in Grapevine to open in January ‘08
Grapevine-Colleyville
ISD has partnered with the Tarrant County Hospital District/JPS
Health Network to open a JPS school-based health center next to
Timberline Elementary School in Grapevine. This is JPS’ eighth
school-based clinic, and the first in northern Tarrant County.
The
clinic will be housed in the district’s former Instructional
Support Center, 3050 Timberline Drive, and will be open five days
a week except for school holidays and the week of July 4. The center
is scheduled to open in January 2008, and will serve children enrolled
in GCISD and their siblings under age 18.
Board
Vice President Lisa Hall, a vocal supporter of the partnership,
said that the center will not only encourage families to have their
GCISD children receive routine exams and get care when they are
ill, but also to promote good family health habits overall.
“The
key to a successful education is that if you’re healthy and
feel good, you’ll learn,” she said. “Having our
district partner with JPS to provide a school-based solution is
another avenue for reaching out to our community and providing them
with an essential preventative and sick healthcare service.”
The
clinic will provide physicals, treatment of minor illnesses and
injuries, and routine lab work. The District will provide the facility,
some furnishings, security, custodial services, utilities and telephones,
and JPS will provide the medical personnel, exam room furnishings,
fax machines, computers and medical equipment.
