GCISD students, staff to celebrate Red Ribbon Week

GCISD campuses will celebrate Red Ribbon Week from Oct. 29-Nov. 2 with a variety of activities. The District will sponsor a drug prevention poster contest for each grade level and campuses will be decorating their buildings inside and out during this week as part of a District “decorate your school” contest. Campus events include:

Friday, Oct. 26
Colleyville Elementary will kick off Red Ribbon Week with a program by educational entertainers, The Morris Brothers, called “Making the right choices.”

Monday, Oct. 29
Bear Creek Elementary
Police Officer Christopher Bianez, a California state gymnastic champion, and Officer Lindy Privett, a fifth-degree Black Belt, will present a trampoline and martial arts demonstration relating to choices and consequences. This “Strengthen Our Youth” program will be presented in two performances, 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., to all grade levels. Information: 817-305-4860.

Bear Creek Elementary – “Put a cap on drugs:” Wear a favorite hat/cap.
Bransford Elementary – Sign pledge and receive Red Ribbon wrist band. Winners of poster contest will be announced.
Cannon Elementary – “Plant the promise:” Wear sunglasses.
Colleyville Elementary – “Fight the war on drugs:” Wear camouflage clothes.
Dove Elementary – “Wild about being drug free:” Wear animal print clothing and/or bring a stuffed animal. Prizes will be given away each day. The student whose name is drawn must be wearing a Red Ribbon bracelet to win.
Grapevine Elementary – “Color our world drug free:” Wear many different colors.
Heritage Elementary – “Drugs give you the blues:” Wear blue clothing and house slippers.
O.C. Taylor Elementary – “I pledge to be…drug free:” Wear red and sign pledge poster.
Silver Lake Elementary – “Shade out drugs:” Wear sunglasses. Theme for the week is “Too cool to do drugs.” School will be decorated in a snow theme representing “cool.”
Timberline Elementary – Wear red clothing.
Colleyville Middle – "Turn out the lights on drugs." Pajama Pant Day.
Cross Timbers Middle – “Don’t get lost in drugs:” Wear tie-dye or camouflage clothes.
Grapevine Middle – “Drugs mess you up:” Wear mismatched clothing.
Heritage Middle – “War on drugs:” Wear camouflage clothes.
Bridges – A guest speaker from the Recovery Council will address students. Students may wear pajamas or sweats.

Tuesday, Oct. 30
Colleyville Middle School
The CMS Drama Department will present the play Under the Influence written by Ron Parker. It is based on many true stories and focuses on the people who are victims of someone else’s decision to do drugs. Although the play deals with painful situations, the message is one of hope. Judy Drury, CMS Theater Arts teacher, directs the student cast. Performances will begin at 8:49 a.m. for eighth grade, 9:45 a.m. for seventh grader and 2:20 p.m. for sixth grade. All performances will be in the cafeteria.

Bear Creek Elementary – “Hugs not drugs:” Bring a favorite stuffed animal.
Bransford Elementary – “A healthy lifestyle and drugs don’t go together:” Wear mismatched clothes.
Cannon Elementary – “Monkeying around isn’t cool, but I am:” Hobby day.
Colleyville Elementary – “Drugs make you sleepy:” Wear pajamas.
Dove Elementary – “Being drug free is no sweat:” Wear wind suits, sweat suits or sweatshirts.
Grapevine Elementary – “Join the fight against drugs:” Wear camouflage clothes or camouflage colors (clothing only – no face painting, etc.).
Heritage Elementary – “Join the fight against drugs:” Wear camouflage clothes or camouflage colors (clothing only – no face painting, etc.).
O.C. Taylor Elementary – “Team up against drugs:” Students wear a uniform or clothing that shows what sport/activity they are involved in.
Silver Lake Elementary – “Give drugs the slip:” Wear slippers.
Timberline Elementary – “Use your head-don’t use drugs:” Crazy hair day.
Colleyville Middle – "Don't let drugs affect your game." Sports day.
Cross Timbers Middle – “Team up against drugs:” Twin day or Jersey day. Dress as twins with a friend or wear your favorite team jersey.
Grapevine Middle – “Pair up with a friend against drugs:” Dress up like your best friend, twins day.
Heritage Middle – “Fight the temptation:” Wear Red Ribbon bracelet.
Bridges – Wear ties.

Wednesday, Oct. 31
Bear Creek Elementary – “Orange you glad to be drug free day.”
Bransford Elementary – Field trips and other great activities are planned.
Cannon Elementary – “What will I be instead of a monkey:” Wear career attire.
Colleyville Elementary – “Wear red day:” Wear red clothing.
Dove Elementary – “Drugs turn you inside out:” Wear clothing inside-out.
Grapevine Elementary – “Hooked on books not drugs:” Dress up for annual Book Parade.
Heritage Elementary – “Heritage Eagles: healthy & proud:” Wear HES shirts.
O.C. Taylor Elementary
– “Run your own life…stay drug free:” Wear running suits.
Silver Lake Elementary – “Hat’s off to being drug free:” Wear crazy hats.
Timberline Elementary – “I can be anything I want to be:” Dress in what you want to be when you grow up.
Colleyville Middle – "Close the book on drugs." Storybook character day.
Cross Timbers Middle – “Don’t get mixed up with drugs:” Wear mix/match clothes (crazy hats are acceptable on this day).
Grapevine Middle – “Don’t be someone you are not:” Costume Day (must be appropriate for school). Teachers will vote for prettiest costume, most creative costume and scariest costume.
Heritage Middle – “Be strong against drugs:” Wear superhero shirt or costume.
Bridges – Wear appropriate Halloween outfits.

Thursday, Nov. 1
Grapevine Middle School
“Drugs and alcohol can kill:” an “Every 15 Minutes” activity. During the school day, selected students will be removed from class to have their face painted white and don black shirts to represent the statistic that about every 15 minutes, there is a drug or alcohol-related death in the United States. Bear Creek Elementary – “Sock it to drugs:” Wear crazy socks.
Bransford Elementary – “We’ve got better things to do than drugs:” Wear favorite team or group jersey.
Cannon Elementary – “Don’t let a friend monkey around with drugs:” Dress like your friend.
Colleyville Elementary – “Drugs keep you from doing sports:” Wear your favorite team shirt/hat.
Dove Elementary – “Follow your dreams, don’t do drugs:” Wear pajamas to school (must meet dress code requirements).
Grapevine Elementary – “Rounding up a drug free school:” Wear favorite cowboy or cowgirl clothes.
Heritage Elementary – “Yes to sports! No to drugs!:” Wear favorite team jersey/shirt.
O.C. Taylor Elementary – “‘All Stars’ give drugs the slip:” Wear slippers.
Silver Lake Elementary – “Don’t let drugs tie you in a knot:” Wear a tie.
Timberline Elementary – “Team up against drugs:” Wear jersey/sports shirt.
Colleyville Middle – "Drugs are tacky so let's dress wacky." Crazy clothes day.
Cross Timbers Middle – “Don’t let drugs get in the way of your dreams:” Wear college shirts or dress up as your future occupation.
Heritage Middle – “Tacky Thursday:” Wear something funky.
Bridges – Wear a hat or sunglasses.

Friday, Nov. 2
Timberline Elementary
Special guests The Morris Brothers will present a program on character building and dealing with bullying. The program will be 8:30-10:30 a.m. and is sponsored by the Timberline PTA. Information: 817-251-5770.

Cannon Elementary – “Responsible in red:” Wear red clothes.
Colleyville Elementary – “I’d rather do the disco than do drugs:” Dress in disco attire.

Grapevine Elementary – “Drug free: the healthy way to be:” Wear red and pledge to make healthy choices. Fitness clothes can also be worn.
Heritage Elementary – “Drug free: the healthy way to be:” Wear fitness clothes or lots of red.
O.C. Taylor Elementary – “Press on against drugs:” Students come to school with sports tattoos given to them on Thursday.
Silver Lake Elementary – “Wear red:” Wear red clothing.
Timberline Elementary – “Don’t turn your back on your future:” Wear clothes backwards.
Colleyville Middle – "Red for me because I'm drug free." Wear red clothing. Pep rally at end of school day.
Cross Timbers Middle – “Red Ribbon pep rally day:” Wear red clothing.
Grapevine Middle – “Celebrate…GMS is drug free:” Wear all red.
Heritage Middle – “Be drug free:” Wear red.
Colleyville Heritage High – “Red Rally Day:” Wear red to school.
