Book Fair
Volunteers help setup and staff two book fairs per year. Along with a wide variety of books for recreational reading and home reference, vendors also offer the required novels used in language arts classes. Funds generated go to the Library to provide additional books and resources. If you have questions or would like to get involved with the Book Fair event, contact the PTA Library/Book Fair Coordinator.

Campus Beautification
Volunteers assist and maintain projects that enhance the beauty of the schools' campus (e.g., sewing, gardens, etc.)

Cotillion
Starting January 2007 and ending February 2007, Cotillion is a six week PTA sponsored even open to all sixth graders that teaches dancing and social confidence.  In addition to traditional, country western and popular dances, you will meet new people and make new friends.  Traditionally, Cotillion has been the "Social Event of the Year" for the sixth grade class.  Invitations with detailed information will be sent out later this fall.

Educational Programs
PTA funds and helps coordinate a variety of supplemental programs and assemblies throughout the school year. These programs may address safety issues or provide enrichment in the form of arts or science programs, for example. Parent programs are provided during general PTA meetings.

Geography Bee/Spelling Bee
An annual event where students compete to represent our school in the district, area, state, and national competitions. Volunteers assist teachers in the school-level competition.

Parent Support & Information Sharing
To provide all parents with a wide range of information and tools, CMS designates representatives to attend GCISD School Board Meetings, Youth Protection Meetings, and GCISD Council of PTA's. In addition, the School Board Liaison tracks important legislative issues through State and National PTA correspondence. The information gathered is then reported through the CMS newsletter and the web site.

Reflections Program
This program encourages students to express themselves through the arts. Volunteers distribute information about this statewide PTA program, collect student projects, and coordinate their inclusion for judging in our district. For statewide information about the Reflections program visit the Texas PTA Web site.

Sally Foster Fundraiser
The sales dates are August 7th to September 6th.  Our PTA earns 50% on all items sold except cookie dough, for which the PTA receives 40%.

School Newsletter - The Colt Courier
Volunteers collect the information, then print and mail the newsletter. The newsletter is published in August before school starts, then at the end of each six week grading period. Copies are mailed and e-mailed to all CMS families, additional copies of the newsletter are available at the front office. Click here for more about the newsletter.

School Supplies
Volunteers obtain lists from teachers and arrange ordering and distribution of the supply packs. These are sold at cost as a service to families at CMS. View 2006-2007 supply list for all grades and electives

Science/Environmental Awareness
Provide programs and projects (such as the EPA Environmental Poster contest) that will enhance awareness of environmental needs of our school and community.

Socials
The Student Socials provide students the opportunity to socialize with their peers and make new friends in a safe, supervised environment. Activities include dancing, ping-pong, and basketball. Parents who volunteer at socials find these events to be a great way to meet their childrens' friends and their parents.

  • Only CMS students may attend and student ID is required.
  • Admission fee is $5.00 per student with ID ($6.00 without ID)
  • 6th Graders attend from 6-7:30 p.m. and should be dropped off at the gym entrance and picked up at the cafeteria entrance.
  • 7th and 8th graders attend from 8-10 p.m. and should be dropped off and picked up at the Gym entrance.
  • See Social Information and Guidelines for more details.

Student Directory
Published early in the fall semester for the use of students and parents. Volunteers solicit advertisements, input and format the book, arrange for printing, and distribute to PTA members.

Sunshine/Student Needs
Assist with charity drives, special needs within our own campus, and in sending acknowledgment cards as necessary.

Talent Show
Provides a showcase for all those talented students. Volunteers coordinate all aspects of this production.

Teacher Luncheons and Appreciation Week
Several times throughout the year, volunteers coordinate luncheons for our faculty and staff.

Volunteers
PTA's volunteer coordinator works closely with the CMS staff to determine the needs which can be met with volunteers and then schedules individuals to help with those specific projects.
