Since 1981, students throughout Texas have been reading from the Bluebonnet list and selecting an outstanding array of Texas Bluebonnet Award winners. The Texas Bluebonnet Award is designed to encourage Texas children to read more books, to explore a variety of current books, to develop powers of discrimination, and to identify their favorite books through the voting process. Students in grades 3-6 are encouraged to read books from an annual master list of no more than 20 titles. Children who read five or more books (or who hear them read aloud) are eligible to vote in January for their favorite book.
