The elementary foreign language program is an exploration of Spanish as a second language. Students are exposed to Spanish through games, songs, hands-on activities, dialogues and role play situations. Opportunities to learn about Spanish-speaking countries and their cultures are included as part of the units of study. The exposure to Spanish provides a beginning for communication skills in Spanish and creates a foundation for continued language learning.
Currently, HES is offering an after-school program for children interested in pursuing the Spanish language. The program, called Spanish Study Hall (SSH!), is an extension of regular classroom time. SSH! is a great opportunity for students to speak, read, write, listen and practice the Spanish language ... and, as always, we accomplish this through games, songs, worksheets, centers, hands-on activities and, most importantly, learning from other students. SSH! is especially helpful for students who are new to the district. However, we also welcome anyone with a desire to learn and love the Spanish language!
