Dear Parents,

My how the time flies! Here we are in April and it seems like we just got back from Winter Break. Of course April is my favorite month of the year because if you listen closely you can hear the crack of the bat, smell the fresh-roasted peanuts, and check the Major League Baseball standing and see that the Texas Rangers aren’t double digits back in the American League West division! Yes, baseball season has finally arrived!

April also brings the end of the third nine weeks on the 4th. Report cards will come home on April 9th and it will be time to check those goal sheets you and your child(ren) have been completing over the last nine weeks. I hope that the goals were surpassed and your child sees the benefit of setting an attainable goal, focusing on the steps it takes to reach it, accessing the necessary resources, and finally having the chance to celebrate the feeling of accomplishment from reaching a desired goal. A new nine weeks goal sheet will be available at the back of this Tiger Tales and on our website. I hope that as we approach the final quarter of the 2007-2008 school year that you will take the time to set your final goals for the school year with your child. This is the most critical nine weeks of the year as students are asked to wrap up an entire year of learning and make the final steps towards being prepared for the next grade.

I am looking forward to our first annual Boosterthon Fun Run on April 18th! This should be a memorable event for our school community. Thanks in advance to the Dad’s club for providing the carbo-loaded pancake breakfast that morning. This will add to the excitement of the event. During the days leading up to the event our students will be treated to high energy mini-lessons from the Boosterthon staff members that will encourage them to R.E.A.C.H. for their goals. By reinforcing the values of Respect, Encouragement, Attitude, Character, and Helping others our students will continue to grow into positive and productive members of our school, community, and society. I hope you are able to join us for this exciting event!

Finally, I am honored to announce that Susan Weston and Linda Sawtelle have been selected as the 2007-2008 Teacher and Paraprofessional of the year. These ladies have a commitment to excellence that makes them natural teachers and role models for our students. Please join me in thanking them for the difference each of them makes on a daily basis!
