Fitness Gram
WHAT is FITNESSGRAM?
FITNESSGRAM is a valuable tool used district wide for helping young people assess their fitness and activity levels, identify ways to improve fitness and health, and learn to enjoy regular physical activity.
FitnessGram is a program developed by The Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research in Dallas, TX. The fitness test is designed to evaluate and educate youth about the status of their physical fitness. Students test in the fall and spring during their physical education class. After testing, students enter their FitnessGram test scores on the computer. Reports are then printed and sent home in their report cards. The report provides each student recommended activities for improving their fitness levels based on their individual test scores. Students take the FitnessGram test again in the spring after having the opportunity to practice the skills at least twice a week during physical education class. The goal is to have every student score in the Healthy Fitness Zone (HFZ).
Please take a few moments to read over your child's score when the report arrives. Your child can explain the testing exercises so you can begin practicing at home together to become and stay a fit and healthy family.
