GMS 7th grade PAP and GT Texas History students traveled to Austin, TX on 5-10-13. The Texas Legislature announced the presence of the GMS students to the floor. GMS students watched as 3 bills were passed.

The GMS Beginning Band competed at the 43rd Annual Band Fun Fest at Sandy Lake Park. They won the 1st place trophy for the 1st Division. It's a great day to be a GMS Pony!
Mrs. Eason and Mrs. Courtney Adams would like to thank all of the GMS staff that participated in the basketball game this past Friday, 4/26. GMS staff was once again victorious over the students.
GMS' NJHS and PALs participated in the Relay for Life last Friday night and had a blast (we will get some pictures up on the website soon). If you have never participated in this event, it is so worthwhile and we are always looking for additional teammates.
A special shout out to Mrs. Bruce, who came out to celebrate with the students and we thank her for the support!
We also would like to thank those students and staff who donated money. GMS turned in $993.48 in donations Friday night and that combined with our online team donations for a grand total of $2033.48 to the American Cancer Society.

Forty-four Grapevine Middle School students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade will be traveling to Austin on Friday, April 19 to compete in the Future Problem Solving State Bowl competition. These students will come up with a futuristic solution to all of the plastic debris that is destroying the ocean system. The students are coached by Sara Moen, Christy Howell and Tami Adams.
The Creative Drama team coached by Tami Adams has already won the state competition with their futuristic play over ocean soup. These five students Sarah Pearson, Audrey Skaar, K'yara Fowler, Lauren Lumert, and Amanda Lowe will present their play at the state competition and they will then be presented with medals.
GMS is very proud of all of our Future Problem Solvers!
GMS Celebrates Earth Day (all week) The visual of seeing our plant bleak, destitute, blackened and barren helps encourage us all to be more aware and reduce, reuse and recycle.
About the globes, they are actually recycled from the early 1990's when a lot of our countries changed names and/or became independent. They would be in landfills and by using them we reduce trash. We are reusing them by applying chalkboard paint to give them a reusable surface, too!

Boys Track: 7th Grader Mason McHorse tied the school record in High Jump with a jump of 5'2".
8th graders: Eyituoyo Omare broke the school record in the 200 m dash with a time of 24.06
and
Zach Wolf broke the school and district record in the 400 m dash with a time of 53.95

The GMS 8th grade girls A team, Coached by Susan Gorman, took 2nd place in the zone tournament Friday, February 15, 2013 at Carroll HS! They finished the season 9-2 losing ONLY to HMS during season play and then to HMS again in the championship game in the tournament. Pictured is their fan club that came and supported the girls at Carroll! Thanks to the coaches, parents and fans for their support!

GCISD is proud to provide an additional resource for reporting bullying, violence or mistreatment of any kind. Friends for Life, a program from Crime Stoppers, is an anonymous reporting method that you or your child can find on your counselors website. Once on the website, there will be a link to the reporting website or a phone number for calling or texting in a report. Off-duty public safety dispatchers operate the call center along with other trained personnel who take calls, texts and online submissions and disseminate the tip information to the appropriate campus and district contacts for investigation. Once again we would like to reiterate that this is an anonymous reporting method. This is just one more way GCISD aims to ensure student safety.

Gina Locke
Even though Gina is new to our campus, she has fit right in. Gina does an amazing job leading our AVID program. She brings great strategies and energy to the 7th grade and her 6th grade AVID students.
I continue to learn from Gina every day.
Gina is willing to go above and beyond to make sure our students are getting what they need and more. She has high expectations for all students both in her classroom and out. She expresses her expectations in a way that our students readily jump to it when she asks. Our students and teachers alike respect Gina!
Every time I see Gina, I see wheels turning in her head. She’s always thinking.
Dedication with a capital D. I recommend working with this woman. You’ll love her energy.

Jerry Cooper
Jerry has stepped up and done an amazing job with technology on our campus. Not having to worry about printer cartridges, logins or anything computer related has made my world much easier. He’s always ready to say “yes” I can!
He’s in my room as soon as I hit the submit button on my technology help orders.
Jerry’s hitting a homerun with most of us. We truly appreciate his expertise and quick helpfulness.
He’s a constant help with my digital classroom. We love his cheerful attitude and constant willingness to help!
Jerry has absolutely run himself ragged getting our digital classrooms set up, apps pushed, and equipment fixed. He’s a techno god and is always so nice and wonderful no matter HOW many times he’s been to my room in a day. He’s amazing.
He’s SO supportive and just a great guy!
