April/May 2013

Dear Bear Creek Parents,

I want to thank all the fifth, fourth and third grade teachers, as well as our Bear Creek reading/math specialists for the outstanding job they did preparing our students for the new STAAR testing.  They put in many extra hours to prepare out students for success.

I want o thank the parents for supporting our efforts to make sure every child is successful on the STAAR.  The campus will be closed to all visitors on STAAR testing days.

MAY is a very busy month.  Kindergarten Roundup is May 7 from 3:30 - 6:00 pm.  There will be online registration.  Please check the district website for more information.  You can also register your child during school hours until May 31st.  If you have a child that will be starting Bear Creek next fall, please register him/her.  Be sure to tell all your neighbors also you can look on the BCE website for information.  Remember that May 27th is a holiday.

Other events that happen in May are the Success Ceremonies for each grade level.  Please check the BCE website for the dates and times.  The last of school is June 5th with dismissal at 11:45 am.

For the summer month... Does your child keep a journal?  This simple activity really improves a child's writing and reading skills.  Have your child write a paragraph daily about his day.  You could even jot down notes to your child.  Spelling and punctuation are important, but you want your child to enjoy writing and write expressively.  Help them think of vivid words to describe their experience.  This can be a great way to enrich your communication with your child and help them develop better writing skills!  The summer should be a great time to start a journal.  Children have lots to say during vacation.  Try it...it's a good thing!

Have a wonderful and safe summer.

Sincerely,

Brooke A. Moose,
Principal
