Congratulations to Heather Hagar, 5th grade and Laura Green, Special Ed. assistant,  for being selected as Cannon's Teacher and Paraprofessional of the Year!!

All grades celebrated National Engineering Week in a special way last week!  Kinder students tested airplane designs, 1st graders designed stepping stones for Cannon gardens, and 3rd graders had a special visit from a Lockheed Martin engineer!
Students from Cannon Elementary: A GCISD STEM School had the opportunity to celebrate National Engineering Week in a very special way last week!  Several student engineers were selected to be an actual exhibit at the Ft. Worth Museum of Science & History during this special week, along with engineer representatives from Lockheed Martin, IBM, Mouser, and various other engineering organizations.  Cannon students presented engineering projects they have done at school this year, as part of Cannon's STEM program to engineers and museum guests throughout the day on Friday, February 21st.

STEMtastic Storm, Cannon's Robotics team, had a great day at Hockaday in Dallas, competing at the North Texas regionals. They received the Rising Stars award from the judges after a tough competition with 59 top-level teams! Way to go team!

2nd grade engineers had a great visit today from Mr. Loftice from FEDEx! They learned about packaging engineering and how to safely ship plants, fragile items, and even Beluga whales!!

GCISD is gathering information about the instructional impact of technology in our schools via the Bright Bytes Clarity Survey. Opportunities for teachers and students to provide feedback through this survey is being provided at school. Parents can take the Bright Bytes survey using the following link www.Bbyt.es/7M9WP

5th grade kicks off their aerospace engineering study with a visit from Mrs. Sweeney, from the National Archives in Ft. Worth. She shared interesting historical documents from NASA about animals in space!

Cannon's 1st robotics team, STEMtastic Storm performed great in the FLL qualifiers today. They are advancing to regionals on Feb. 1!!! They also took the 1st place overall Project Award!! Way To go team!!

National Geographic Explorer, Andres Ruzo surprised a Cannon 5th grader at school on Friday, after receiving a letter from her, telling him he had inspired her to become a geologist when she grows up!

Kindergarten students construct gingerbread houses with help from their Dads!

Cannon 2nd grade Dual Language scholars had the opportunity to apply their math skills to a real-world experience today when they went shopping at our local Big Lots store to purchase toys to donate to Santa Cops. These scholars recently created "can structures" from canned foods donated to Cannon, as part of a holiday food drive. These structures were photographed and sold at an art show. The scholars decided that the proceeds from this art show should go towards purchasing toys to donate to the local Santa Cops effort. The scholars raised $180 from their art show and walked to Big Lots today, with a VIP police escort from the Grapevine police department. After making their purchases, Officer Rhoades, from the GV Police department was on hand to accept their toy donations to Santa Cops. Way to go 2nd grade!!

Our campus-wide community service project was a huge success!!  Cannon Cubs raised over $1,000 for Habitat For Humanity by selling home-themed holiday ornaments they designed in class.  Thank you to all for your support of this effort!

Cannon Cubs were treated to a special presentation on Friday when Mr. Steve Lowe visited Cannon with his candy house, inspired by the Disney movie, Up!    He spoke with the students about the design process utilized in creating this wonderful (and tasty!) structure!  Thank you Mr. Lowe!

The Cannon Cub choirs performed a beautiful holiday program!  Thanks Mr. Lollis!

    Doctor Dr. Note Required
Don’t forget…if you check your child out of school early for a doctor’s appointment, a note from the doctor/dentist is required to excuse your child’s absence.

    Early Pick Up=Partial Day Absence=Unexcused (without a doctor’s note)
