Welcome to the new school year here in GCISD!

My name is Dr. Shannon Cole and it is my honor to serve here in GCISD as the principal of Silver Lake Elementary where it is our goal to be the BEST.  It is my third year in the district and I have loved working with our amazing staff as we all are focused on bringing LEAD 2021 to life on our campus. This year we will focus on giving students voice in the day to day operations of our campus and asking them how we can be better educators.  This is exciting and scary all at the same time, as students will tell you what they think, if you take the time to ask.

Just as a little history, I earned my B.A. in Advertising from Harding University and a M.Ed. in Education Leadership from Grand Canyon University.  Most recently I graduated from Dallas Baptist University with a Doctorate in K-12 Educational Leadership where my studies and writing focused on dual language education.  This is my 16th year serving in public education, with experience teaching special education, 4th and 5th grade, and previous to that I also worked for 8 years in private pre-K education.

Over the years I have had life experiences that drew me to education.  It is my life mission to serve students and find creative ways to bring out the best in each child.  I believe there is no greater calling than teaching.

For the upcoming school year our theme is “The Power of ONE”.  This theme highlights the impact that can occur from ONE kind word, ONE encouraging glance, ONE involved parent, ONE committed teacher.  We know and understand the importance of each and every member of our school community and we are grateful for you.  If you are new to the Silver Lake community, I think you will immediately notice the warmth and kindness of our students, staff, and parents.  We are grateful for all of the support from our PTA and families and know that it is going to be an amazing year because of our ongoing partnership.
