GHS Mustang Band advances to Area competition with support from the football team
It’s been tradition for marching bands to support the football team, but this past weekend the Grapevine High School Mustangs put a new spin on that tradition by traveling to the UIL Region 24 Marching Band Contest to cheer on the Grapevine Mustang Band at Standridge Stadium in Carrollton.
As the football Mustangs encouraged them from the stands, the Mustang Band earned all 1’s, qualifying the band for the UIL Area B Marching Competition on Saturday, October 24 in Carrollton.
“This is the highest score they could receive. The staff felt they marched their best show yet this season! We are so proud! Thanks to all the students for their best focus and effort and thanks to all of our awesome parent volunteers,” said Mustang Band Director Shannon Gill.
Talking about the football team’s show of support, Gill added, “It’s fantastic. It does nothing but good for the kids in promoting unity here. They’re going to be so excited. This makes them feel important."
GHS Head Football Coach Randy Jackson said, “It’s good for our players to show appreciation. It’s one of our core values. It’s important to go and show the band how much they mean to us.”
“It’s important. It preaches the idea of unity that we’re all in this together,” said GHS Principal David Denning. “The band works as hard as the football team and they deserve the support.”
