EOC Summer School Clarification
ATTENTION Parents of students in grades 9-12 attending the end-of-course summer school program in GCISD:

With the passage of Texas House Bill 5, certain end-of-course exams are no longer a requirement for graduation under state law. Courses that have been eliminated from graduation requirements are Algebra II, Chemistry, English III, Geometry, Physics, World History and World Geography. As a result, students who were attending summer school for these courses no longer need to attend and they will not be retesting in July. However, GCISD is continuing to offer accelerated summer instruction on a voluntary basis for students who want to take advantage of this opportunity to strengthen their success in these courses.

Please note that if your child is attending summer accelerated instruction for English I Reading, English I Writing, English II Reading, English II Writing, Biology, Algebra I or US History, he/she will be retesting on these subjects in July and attendance in the summer course is highly encouraged. Passing the EOC exam for these subjects remains a requirement for graduation under state law.

More information about the TEA ruling is available here. Questions about the changes in end-of-course graduation requirements may be directed to your child's school counselor or to Gayle Smith, GCISD Director of Assessment, Research and Evaluation. Thank you for your support and we look forward to continuing to work with you to meet the academic goals of your student.
