GCISD's Financial Services department has received recognition for its high level of transparency, earning a 2012 Gold Leadership Circle Award from the Texas Comptroller's Office. The application for the award, submitted by Deb Spurlock, Financial Services office manager, scored 17 of 20 possible points. As part of the application process, the district was required to place specific financial information and documentation on the website, making it easily available to taxpayers. According to a letter sent to the district from Texas Comptroller Susan Combs, the award spotlights local governments that set the bar for transparency by providing citizens with a clear, consistent picture of spending and sharing information in a user-friendly format. GCISD is listed on the "Texas Transparency" website with the Gold seal and will receive a digital seal for the GCISD website.
