GCISD schools honor veterans with Veterans Day events
Veteran’s Day will be observed on Monday, November 12 and many schools are putting together activities to honor the men and women who served and are currently serving our country. Programs featuring guest speakers and patriotic activities are planned throughout the district.
Bear Creek Elementary: A Veterans Day assembly will be held on Nov. 9 at 1:45 p.m. featuring the BCES Choir.
Colleyville Elementary: There will be a Wall of Honor on display in the CES main foyer. Morning announcements during the week of Nov. 12-16 will highlight a veteran each morning, with the veteran telling about his/her service. Fifth grade will present a Veterans Day program on Nov. 15 at 8:15 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Dove Elementary: The Veterans Day program will take place in the DES gym on Nov. 9 beginning at 1:30.
Glenhope Elementary: There will be two programs held on Nov. 9 to honor veterans. The first program will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the second one will begin at 9:30 a.m. Veterans are invited to join at either time and will be recognized for their service. There will also be a Wall of Honor made of stars with Veteran’s name, branch of service and years served.
Grapevine Elementary: Grandparents and veterans will be honored at the annual Heritage Day event on Nov. 16. A special program will be performed by second and third graders at 8:15 a.m.
Heritage Elementary: The twelfth annual Veterans Day Celebration will be held on Nov. 12 at 8:15 a.m. in the front circle of HES. Students and staff are invited to bring a family member or special guest who has served or is currently serving in the military. Veterans will be introduced, and each grade level will sing a song as a tribute to them. The Veterans Day Celebration ends with a parade of family members and special guests around the front circle. They will then be invited to visit the classrooms to share their personal stories.
O.C. Taylor Elementary: Students wore hats in school by donating $1 for veterans at the local veteran’s hospital on Nov. 2 during “Tip Your Hat to Veterans Day”. On Nov. 6 first graders will have a patriotic program at 8 a.m. and the third and fourth graders will have a Veterans Day program at 8:30 a.m.
Silver Lake Elementary: A Veterans Day program will take place in the SLE cafeteria on Friday, Nov. 9 from 8:30-9:30 a.m.
Cross Timbers Middle: The annual CTMS Veterans Day celebration will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 8:30 a.m. in the Black Gym. Grapevine High: On Nov. 12, Grapevine High School will offer several events throughout the day to honor our veterans. The first activity is the Red Carpet Walk of Honor, which begins at 8:25 a.m. Everyone is then invited to attend the program “A Tribute to Veterans” in the Madeleine Hemley Auditorium at 8:45 a.m. featuring guest speaker Mr. Doug Baron, former Air Force captain and retired Delta Air Lines pilot. Veterans will then be treated to breakfast in the GHS library, followed by a special living memorial dedication in the Veteran’s Memorial Garden at 10:30 a.m. All veterans attending are encouraged to wear their medals.
